Hi All,

I'm hoping to take on a bit of local tournament play, my FLGS called it a friendly tournament, so I take that as being come to enjoy, cheesy lists will not make you friends, so I'm after something that will happily go toe to toe, but won't be cheese

having shown my first suggested list the manager has said "ditch the rhinos and razorback" as they are seen as 1st Blood providers by the local meta, I can see that, so I've changed to this suggested list, can anyone see anything that could be done better without becoming cheese?

HQ (warlord) - Captain - Master-Crafted Combi-Melta, Power Sword, Artificer Armour - Running with the Sternguard

HQ - Librarian - Terminator Armour, Master-Crafted Force Weapon, Psyker Lvl 2 (Using Biomancy and Pyromancy) - Deep-Striking with the Terminators.

Troops - Tac Squad (10) with Vet Upgrade, Flamer, Heavy Bolter, Vet with Master-Crafted Combi-Plasma

Troops - Tac Squad (10) with Vet Upgrade, Flamer, Missile Launcher, Vet with Master-Crafted Combi-Plasma

Troops - Tac Squad (10) with Vet Upgrade, Multi-Melta, Flamer, Vet has Mastercrafted Chain-Sword and Bolt Pistol - In Land Raider (as Combat Squads)

Elites - Sternguard Squad (5) in Drop Pod, 3x Combi Flamers, 1 x Combi Melta and 1 x Master Crafted Combi-Melta

Elites - Terminator Squad (5) Serg has Master-Crafted Storm Bolter and Power Sword, 1 x Assault Cannon - Deep-Strike in with Libby

Heavy Support - Land Raider - stock - used as a troop transport for a tac squad with Multi-Melta

Heavy Support - Stalker - stock

Heavy Support - Centurion Dev Squad - Serg has Lascannons, Master-Crafted Missile Launchers and Omni-Scope, other two are stock

Tactics would be...

Captain drops with Sternguard close to cover/near to something that needs killing off, if right in the enemies grill, pop the 3 melta shots otherwise hold some nice ground in the mid-field and await the rest of the armies back-up

Librarian deep-strikes with the Termies wherever seems best, hopefully causing a tar-pit/troop killing unit

all Tac Squads Combat Squad up - and Missile Launcher and Heavy Bolter hold up in reasonable distance, while Serg and flamer with assistance move up to take midfield on the flanks

Land-Raider holds combat squad with Multi-Melta and Master-Crafted Chainsword Tacs, move up the middle of the table, assault Viable combat squad if needed taking on weaker troops in CC, while the other combat squad get up close for Multimelta fun

Stalker moves up slowly behind the Land Raider to hurt any flyers/skimmers around, failing them being present it shifts to 8 shot mode at BS 1 for snap shot prospects on troops

Centurions Hold the middle field too, trying to crush troops and pop the odd vehicle with the split-fire from the omni-scope


does this look ok? am I barking up a shrub?

I own everything but the libby, and have a few other bits and bats I could call on if needed

Only thing I would change is drop the vet serg upgrade on the tactical squads and upgrade two of your centurions to have missile launchers. With that other free 10 points maybe give two Terms Chainfists? Rest looks good.

Unless I'm mistaken (don't have the book in front of me atm), you don't need to take Vulkan to MC all characters weapons for free .. just the CT : Salamanders

Hey,

Yep it's the second part of the Chapter Tactics for Salamanders

All Characters get a option for a free master crafted weapon, including ones that they have purchased.

also thanks for the comment on Vet sergeants, i didn't know if having a Char with +1 attacks and +1 leadership might be useful, but having said that, if he's challenged, likelihood is they'd both die just as quickly, so maybe that is a few points back for other stuff?

any other comments?
