Was playing a game tonight in preparation for a local tournament. My opponent said that in a recent tournament he was told a NId player is not allowed to use 'Gaunts from their deadpile to create new spawned units (from tervigons). Does anyone know if this is actually the case based upon rules or is it just made up?

Will mean I have to paint a LOT more.

Totally, one hundred percent made up. No such rule exists.

The guy either wants you to spend more money on 'gaunts, or he just wants you to stop spawning them because reasons.

Ask you TO about their rules, don't use hearsay as it may be for the wrong location, or just wrong.

That way,then left

There is no "Exile" kind of mechanics in this game.
A model (rule-wise) is represented by a piece of plastic, but should the model die nothing prevents you from using it to represent a different "model"

100% made up.

Honestly, I think the guy was just trying to prevent your friend from flooding the table with those nasty Termagants!
Rightfully so... I've seen a Termagant take down 5 baneblades in one turn of Shooting. (True Story )

I lied. It was a made up story

Actually, my friend (who does actually own the FLGS) was playing against a Nid player at a GT -type affair miles away. The Nid player was told he was not allowed to use his deadpile to replenish units by the TO.

The Nid player then proceeded to use unpainted Gaunts and lost his painting score due to this.

FLGS owner was pretty shocked at the ruling; he didn't see what difference it made.

The TO needs to point to the rule in the rulebook that defines a "dead pile." If he can't, then it doesn't exist. And if it doesn't exist, then you cannot relegate models to waste away, unused, in it.

A TO is within their rights to make up whatever ridiculous inane rules they want.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

The TO should point out any ridiculous rulings before the tournament, so Nid players have time to get a refund on their ticket.

If he in any way benefits from sales (like a GW store manager) I can see him pulling this one (illigitimitally). Me and my friend got back into the game after a 6year absence and the local store manager attempted to convince my friend that DA were the best ally possible for his eldar (DA had just been rereleased), and in fact that they were the strongest army out there. He also pretty much lied about some major rules when he proceeded to battle him to ensure he got the win against his eldar to prove he needed allies. My mate now has a ton of DA models he never uses. Rule of thumb: don't trust anyones advice if they directly benefit from the chance of a sale.

Isn't it funny how some store owners don't seem realize that you don't need them to order your models and that ruining their reputation and causing resentment will in the end lose them more money then they are likely to make in the short term. Or how some people will just win at all cost... cheat, rules lawyer, become TFG that nobody likes or respects and can't find anyone willing to play with him.

According to Lt. Worf, nothing is more honorable than victory (I think that was from DS9). But usually Klingon victories mean the other guy is actually dead, not still standing across the table from him/her.

LOL, trying to imagine Klingons playing 40k now... those poor miniatures will never survive...
I'm sure he meant an honorable victory.
I did misspeak though. 'Better an honorable death...' would be more like it bur for a warrior there generally was little difference as honor and duty both came before life, and death in battle was their greatest hope.

Sorry for off topic posts.
