Subject: X-wing - suggestions for my next model

Hi, everyone. I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a potential next purchase for me?
I've got the Starter set models, I have 3 TIE fighters, 1 TIE bomber, 1 TIE advanced, 1 TIE Interceptor, 1 A-Wing, 1 Y-wing, and a Millennium Falcon. I've only used the Starter Set models so far, just to get into the game.
Is the HWK any good? How about the imperial shuttle?
I love how easy the game is to pick up, makes a refreshing change from 40k!

If you play rebels I would pick up a b wing. There are some fun things you can do with them. I played empire for the first time ever and placed 2nd in a local tournament with a bomber, shuttle, and firespray. While I think the shuttle is garbage, I found a great use for it. The cards you get with it are also a must have.

hey mate. im up to 32 models and counting. just have gotten my hands on some wave3.
depends what faction you like playing.
looks like you need a few B-Wings, a Slave1 and a few more bombers.
imo the HWK-290 and Lambda Shuttle are less powerful than B-Wing or Bomber, they are true support ships and need careful thought/skill to get them to work well.
Bombers and B-Wings, just play at least two of them and ur good im torn between a 4 bomber build and a 3 bomber +1 other ship build, trying to get a shuttle to work in there, still tinkering. Jonus is very good tho so im trying to build squads arnd him.

For Empire I would suggest getting a Firespray, followed by another Bomber. When the Aces Interceptor* pack comes out, pick one of them up. Bear in mind I have a bias towards the Shuttle, it flies like a cow and that doesn't suit my play style, but 4 of them in 100pts looks kind of hard to take down if you can maneuver them well.
For the Rebel Kitten and Orphan murdering Alliance, another B and X wing. Played around with Jan Ors and 2 B's last night, and would suggest a HWK as being a later purchase.
*- Can someone explain why I've seen them referred to as "Squints"?

Normal Ties are eye-balls
Interceptors are squints
Bombers are dupes
and the advanced is never seen again (afaik) so no fancy nicknames.

Advanced were called 'brights', though I don't know the designation for Defenders.

Yeh, I've got the Imperial Aces on order Weirdly I was thinking of buying a few Interceptors and re-painting them and then an hour later saw the two-pack being advertised.
and 32 ships?! What kind of a ratio have you got? I'd imagine it's going to be more imperial than rebel?

If you're only starting out, skip on the HWK for now, but you'll want one eventually. Despite one naysayer, I think a HWK, A-Wing and Y-Wing combo (played correctly) is disgustingly powerful. However, it also takes a lot of previous gameplay to get the hang of it. For now, get yourself a B-Wing. It's got survivability and it's got the barrel roll: the only Rebel ship to have that so far. It's an invaluable ability, and you can't go wrong with it. It also gives you great new toys, especially the advanced torpedos to throw on an X-Wing or Y-Wing.

^ a B-Wing is on the cards whenever I can find one, literally every site says they're out of stock, and I've seen some horrific prices on eBay - £29 for a Y-wing, for example.
Slightly off topic, but can a TIE (fighter/advanced/interceptor/bomber) take the shield boost card. I'd say no, since they have no shields to boost, but I saw a video that had TIEs using them... and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they'll be in the TIE Interceptor Imperial Aces pack later this year

Yes. Any ship in the game can purchase 1 of any modification. The question is would you want a Shield or 4 Agility die on your TIE's?

Stu, if you were in the US, I'd go grab one for you and send it your way for retail and shipping. Alas, it would likely be cheaper for you to find one online being in the UK. Best of luck!

Do you have an X-wing? I mean the ones that are sold separately? I got it for the cards, so I can almost have a complete set.
I guess alot of people including me, don't just buy for the ships, but for the cards as well.
I would say get the Imperial Shuttle as well. Like come on, when we were kids, who didn't want to fly the Millennium Falcon? I think up next would be the Imperial Shuttle would be in the top 5 to fly as well.
I just got it, and love the look of it on the table/shelf.

ratio is pretty even.
imperials (19)
8x ties
2x tie-advanced
2x slave1
3x tie-intercepter
1x Shuttle
3x Bomber
rebels (14)
5x X-wing
2x Y-wing
2x A-Wing
2x falcon
2x B-Wing
1x HWK-290
oh thats 33, miscounted, bought a 5th x-wing ship as one of mine had a damaged support.
ships pending... 1x bomber, 2x imperial ace intercepters... maybe a 4th B-Wing
current collection appears a bit skewed towards imperials but it isnt really as imperial lists are generally made up of more ships.
