Hello once again fellow Commanders! Thank you for all your help and insight, after play testing a few games with the different xenos armies I was contemplating I have decided to go through and create a Mech Tau force for my second 40k army! Now just recently a tournament has been announced for next month (November) and I want to get started right away in regards to building and assembling so I may have a fully painted army by the time the tournament arrives. Now below I have compiled a list for the tournament that I think would be quite effective in combating all opponents I am likely to face. That being said however I would love your guys insights into the list I have written up or if you feel something would be better to please let me know. Thank you again guys for all your help and thanks for posting!

HQ:

-Commander
*w/ x2 Missile Pods, Target Lock, Drone Controller, Neuroweb System Jammer

TROOPS:

-x6 Fire Warriors
*w/ Pulse Rifles
-Devilfish
*w/ Smart Missile System, Blacksun Filter

-x6 Fire Warriors
*w/ Pulse Rifles
-Devilfish
*w/ Smart Missile System, Blacksun Filter

-x6 Fire Warriors

FAST ATTACK:


-Drone Squadron (*Commander Goes Here*)

TOTAL ARMY: 999 POINTS


TACTICS:


-Commander sit backs with Marker Lights and gives them BS 5 while they Marker Light a vital target a turn for my army. Commander uses Missile Pods to sit back safe at a distance and bombard the enemy.

-x3 Squads of Fire Warriors camping out in Devilfish who with Smart Missiles will sit back and kite the enemy and unload on them when they get close. Ideally they will zoom up and take objectives near the end of the game, I have Blacksun Filters on my Devilfish because I had points left over.

-x2 Hammerheads with Submunition Rounds to handle any armor and be dual purpose against infantry heavy armies that I may come across. Both have Blacksun filters and Smart Missiles in case of night fighting.

-x1 Skyray for my Anti-Air defense first and foremost. If my opponent has no anti-air I will use my missile on a scary target (Wraithknight, Landraider, ect.) and hopefully bring it down with x6 missiles. Also armed with Smart Missile System and a Blacksun Filter.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

I think you're going to have a really hard time against anything that isn't massed light infantry. The biggest weaknesses I see in this list are that you have very few S6+ weapons to take out those more resilient units. I'd probably drop a hammerhead in favor of some broadsides or a riptide, and maybe consider taking some kroot instead of one oft your firewarrior units.

all this assuming you're dedicated to taking dfish. Mech is kinda a tough sell at the moment, but its worth a shot and should be a fun list to play.

SMS ignores cover....... aka (devilfish) BSF is pointless.

You ought to give your commander iridium armor unless you like getting st 8ed.

you should get long strike. as its nearly a guarantee kill of a vehicle. (50% for a open landraider)
