Guys if i attach my chapter master to a command squad and an enemy HQ issues a chalenge in close combat i am forced to accept with my company champion instead of my HQ??

and if i want to issue a chalenge i am forced again to issue it with my company champion insted of my HQ?? ( i have to wait till he dies so i can issues challegnes with my hq?) i am talking about the honour or death rule...

seems strange...

Well...yes and no.

He must always issue or accept when possible. There are two ways around this.
1. Accept the challenge and on the following turn have the HQ jump in (Glorious Intervention or some such rule).
2. Spread your unit out as much as possible (i.e. a Conga line) with the HQ at front and Champ at back. If done properly, the Champ will not be engaged and cannot issue/accept a challenge until the following turn (by which the HQ is already involved and thus cannot).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

That's pretty much the way it works. If you look back through literature, champions are often used to fight their leader's personal duels. Why risk the head of command?

In game terms, it does suck that you are essentially forced to throw away a round of combat waiting for him to get killed in some fights...but then again, you aren't forced to take him.

thanx guys fir the replays... well heh thats kinda stupiud... and it needs a faq. i think!

waiting fot the pathetic company champion with his power sword to die from GAz thraka while my chapter master with his relic blade sits and picks up his nose along with the rest command squad was pretty stupid today...

i was wining the game ( purge the alien) and then tharaka angeged my command squad with my chapetr master and they all died happily cause they have to wait for the champion to die... then they have to wait for the chapter master to die...and then they could fight,,,and die ofc

Only an engaged model can accept/declare a challenge, so with proper positioning the Champ can be unengaged and thus unable to accept or issue. Also the rule does not disallow the HQ from jumping in on the second turn.

Chamions of chaos have the same rule. its a double edged sword. in the case of the champion however it works out well because while the champ accepta a challenge your hq can slaughter the enemy unit. then next turn step in and finish off a potentially wounded enemy character.
