hello ive recently started to play against chaos as two of my freinds are now getting deamons and chaos space marines and ive been contemplating with them and try to help make their list now i do realize that you cannot take forgefeind/maulerfeind's in a daemon army unless its by allies but we were wondering which group has more bang for its buck

Maulerfiends are great for a multi-threat assault list. Forgefiends are pretty 'meh' for their point cost but with just hades cannons is threat to pretty much anything in the game, flyers included.

Defilers ... no just no, not at those point cost.

Soulgrinders, however, are great. DoN with phlem bombardment is just an all around great unit for the price.

The defiler suffers from many problems such as not being able to fire 2/3 of its weapons. The super high points cost coupled with its thin AV12 skin is a no go. Fiends are the way to go.

The Soul Grinder is cheaper than the Defiler, his blast weapon is shorter ranged, but that's not the only weapon you can give him. The Torrent is nice for roasting Tau and Eldar if you don't go for the Phlegm.

If you have Icon toting Cavalry, Deep Striking them right in front of your opponent is just priceless.

Soul Grinder all the way. Its very robust, sports some great weapons and CC ability, is cost effective, and can be deep struck off of icons. It's a better defiler in pretty much every way.
