I'm rather fascinated by the idea of an infiltrating Marine army, as to me it portrays the "proper" Marine fighting quality, surgical strikes at enemy weak spots, much better than your regular footslogger list.

Gaming wise, the idea is to isolate a part of the enemy army and bury it under a torrent of firepower, relying on the staying power of over 40 MEqs to keep doing it for 6 turns. I'd really like this to actually become a competitive list, so tell me what's bad and what's not (while keeping to the overall strategy of infiltration)!

Looks real familiar, I've got a similar concept that I'm working on at the moment.

The biggest problem I see is the lack of any kind of mobility post-deployment (I'm not counting the speeders since they'll fall apart under any kind of fire... ).  Also, you've got to consider Alpha level missions where you won't be able to infiltrate at all.  It's tough to fit everything in a 1500 point list, mine is planned out at 1850 - those extra 350 points really help a lot.

I'm planning on using a Termie squad (with cheapo commander), three infiltrating Las/Plas squads, two infiltrating Dev squads (one 8-man with missile launchers, the other 6-man with Heavy Bolters), an 8-man Assault squad, squad of two Tornadoes, and two 8-man Tacs in Drop Pods decked to the nines.  Still light on post-deployment maneuverabillity, but the assault squad and drop pods can at least take a shot at objectives.

You might want to consider putting the Librarian in Termie armor, dropping the command squad and a Terminator, and making the 4 remaining termies into a command squad.  That would net you about 130 points.  Drop the single speeder to get to 180 points.  That's enough for a small, 6-man Assault squad.  It's not much, but they'll be more resiliant than the single speeder while being faster than the current command squad.

Good luck, let us know how it works out in the Batreps section!

Are you coming to the Royal Rumble or Helsinki Fanatic?

Chaos Space Marines codex would make for a much meaner infiltrating marine army

Kwade - I like the idea of an Assault Squad, I'll have to try it out. Thanks!

Migs - I'm coming to the Rumble at least, not sure if I can make it to the Fanatic. I'm going loyalist at the moment because I want to take my new Marine chapter to the field, but if I get some unexpected sloth attack and fail to convert the Speeders and Devs, I'll use the Chaos army that I have (and the drop in painting score ).

Hrmm how would an Alpha Legion infiltrating army (foot troops and cultists?) fare? I would think pretty well, 'cause if you set them up right, your opponent should have to make target priority checks to shoot any marines, and if you bring enough cultists then he can't hope to kill them all. In which case... would close range shooting, or outright assault be better?
