This might be in the wrong area, but had a question on Space Marine Chapter tactics:

If running an allied force made up of, lets say, Iron hands as main detachment with Ultramarine allies. What if I say the main force is the 2nd battle company/clan and the ultramarine force is made up of the 7th company/clan with appropriate markings(a red or whatever color for the 7th company on the bases or the models) and just say that there tactics differ greatly from company to company? Long winded question I know, but wanted to create an allied force of my own DIY without having to build all new armies.

Here is what I was thinking;

1st Company: Ultrmarines or Crimson Fists/imperial fists for scoring sternguard
2nd Company-5th Company: Iron Hands
6tth-7th Companies :Ultramarines
8th Company: Raven Guard or White scars, prefer jump infantry over bikes
9th Company: Imperial Fists for tank hunting Devastator squads
10th company: I did my scouts up with some bionics but it could be Raven Guard or Whatever

This is not meant to create an overpowered list or anything, just don't want to collect new armies at the moment and would rather complete my current one and get some games going. Thank you for the feedback.

Umm

Well you ot to ask your LFGS, opponent, TO if its ok.

You can do whatever you want when it comes to painting, and as long as they are very well distinguished from each other then i don't think much anyone will have a problem with it

Should be fine so long as it's obvious which is using the different chapter tactics. If each model has it's company markings shown clearly it's no problem at all imo. Don't UMs have different coloured helms for each company? That would be very clear.
