Hello Dakka!

I've painted my first mini and I would like to ask you for some feedback.
I mean, what to do better, what's wrong, what's good, what to do different way, etc...

My army is Tundra/Taiga based, so camo is white/green

Sorry for fetthy quality of photos. It won't be better.

Spoiler:

I need to learn paint better faces. I used a tipless needle to paint his eyes.

*What are you looking at? eh?*

Notice that light blue tint on his left arm

That thing underheath him is salt - imitation of snow

Good showing for a first mini!

There's a few things:
- there are some grains of basing on the model where they don't belong, like on the pistol holster and the edge of the base;
- the object source lighting on the arm is neat, but would also be on parts of the gun;
- the thing with eyes is they're often too big. Mostly eyes look better if they're not painted (ie, just leave the shading color there). If you do paint eyes, take care to size them realistically. Overall the face looks like it could use some shading;
- you drilled the gun barrel, that's always a good thing;
- the camo scheme is quite cool (no pun intended );
- it looks like you went for a scar on the guy's cheek? If so, good on you for adding some character to the model

Thanks for review Oddball

- they felt off a while after. They were holding there by strength of their will (Does salt have will?)
- Okay. I'll remake it
- This was achieved on 5th try I shaded it, but slightly. (I know, low quality photos take it's tax) I'll not paint eyes on helmeted soldiers. I tought it will look odd in this case.
- I always drill barrels. Except lasguns and laspistols -> too tiny
- Inspired by "Tiger stripes camo"
- Yep, his scar is highlighted for purpose

Maybe, I'll crush salt to nearly dust and then glue it back. Maybe it will look better.

And then spray it with colorless varnish.

That's looking really nice now, especially for your first mini.

I'll try to spray him with matt transparent varnish, to protect both mini and salt. If it won't help, I'll remove the salt and use some snow imitation from hobby store.

The salt will work just fine, Ive used everything from Salt to Sugar for years and have never had a problem with them. Looking good too, my only thing would be to try and get those "tiger stripes" sharper on the ends, as they look a bit fat for a typical stripe pattern.
