So on a goof, since it's easier to get models than minis for star wars as of late, some friends got a bunch of x-wing and tie/ln models, built and painted them, made scaled bases and templates and played x-wing at a much larger scale...across part of a parking lot. Was a lot of fun I was told, and I'm looking around for a set of b wings for the next match. If we can, we are thinking of having enough models on hand and the finals for our con tounaments would be played at the large scale.

Wasn't there, but I'm going to get as many pics as I can at the next battle. Things they are looking at adding in: asteroids and chalk. Giving the kids some street chalk to draw us a "Play area" to battle on.

It's genius, at AdeptiCon and GenCon I saw a larger scale game played on the ground. It works and it's great for kids and adults alike

Talked with a friend that is making sure I'm in the right scale. We're using 1/72nd scale models vs the 1/172 of fantasy flight.

I just ordered 3 of the return of the jedi edition b-wings, at 1/72nd scale and are 7 to 8 inches long. As far as the rest of the guys, I'm not really sure what models they are using.

That is awesome. As that scale, the 1 template is 10 inches, the 2 is 20 inches etc...
1/72 is a pretty common scale too. The playing surface for most games will be 30x30 feet. Awesome!

I actually think we are going to be playing on a 20 x 20 field. at 30 x 30, a ship moving 40 inches (4 straight) would have to move at least 4 times just to make it to the center line. at 20 x 20 it would still be 3 moves to the center line, but you should be able to hit the other team on the second round at the increaced range.
