since the command squad gets to keep the bolt pistol and chainsword even if you buy the speacial ranged weapons (like plasma guns) how do you model them??

you replace the chainswords with combat blades (on their belts)?

you dont give them at all the chainswords (u loose the what you see is what you get rule)

you give them the chainswords and put the plasma guns on ther backs?? kinda hard!

you give them the plasma guns and put the chainswords on their belts? (bad think is that all the chainswords have a little hand on them!

or you make them using the plasma gun with one hand?

what do you guy suggest or do?

model the plasma guns on the belts and the hands holding the hand to hand weapons if you have to be WYSIWYG, other wise just model hiim with the gun and make sure there is a belt pack with a knife and holster on it.

The easy option its to have the plasma gun in one hand, chainsword in the other, and give them a holster for the pistol.

Having said that, a lot of players don't care as much about having basic gear modelled... It depend on the people you play with.

If you're looking at tournament play, though, definitely try to cram everything on there where possible, as that will cause fewer issues in the long run.

Agreed, bolt pistol holsters are fairly common (for both loyalist and chaos marines), and by far the easiest way to show three weapons.

I've also used sheathed swords from WHFB in the same way - I don't recall seeing any 40K-specific versions.

Pedantically you could just add a knife to the marine's belt, as a knife is still a close combat weapon - perfectly rules-legal, but not as cool looking...

Another option could be to sculpt a shoulder strap for the 2 handed gun, have the chain sword in one hand, and the pistol in the other, or in a holster (lol the holsters are like 25% the size of the pistol hehe) giving you the chance to have a free hand, or some other wargear... scanner? grenade? etc.

Edit; another idea, kinda taken from the black templars; their upgrade sprue has their weapons chained to their wrists... I'm not sure on the fluff for this, but I liked them and used them on my Ravenwing bikers.... thinking they can let go of the weapon without loosing it could have things hanging off them with chains in this fashion.

Combat knives are fine for a ccw.... have you played the 'Space Marine' game? you start off with a bolt pistol and a combat knife... yet this certainly doesnt stop you kicking serious amounts of ass with it! Marines could totally fight unarmed, arguably a marines fist could count as a ccw he's always got 2 of those

I've actually modeled all my Csm WYSIWYG, meaning that the ones holding a pistol & ccw have the bolter on their leg (remember, Power Armor has mag-locks for just that reason), and the ones with bolters or special weapons have a holstered pistol and ccw on their waist.

Actually most of them have a chainsword off their belt. All it takes is cutting off the hand and attaching a suitable replacement hilt.
