Hey there, this will be a place where I post progress on conversions and painting for my ever growing Iron Warriors 13th grand company.
I would appreciate C&C on anything so I can improve my hobby related skills.

As it stands now I have well over 10000 points, half of it painted and i have no intentions on slowing down.
I will work on getting a group shot of the painted portion of the force, but for now here are some pic of my new raptor squad.

This is the first time I've attempted a blog, so if any one can give me advice on the most streamlined way of posting images it would be much appreciated. Posting them through the gallery seems to far more time consuming to upload than say a site like imgur.
In fact any advice or tips about the best way to post things would be appreciated.

Iron Warriors Lieutenant Dristoro, the leader of my Inquisimunda killteam.
Tried my hand at some weathering using Vallejo pigments, probably could have done with a lighter shade of grey as it seems to blend into the silver of the armour a bit much for my liking.

Finished converting the melta gunner for my new raptor squad continuing the theme set by the other three.
Just need to decide what to equip the champ with. Dual lightning claws or combi-melta and lightning claw.

Also started painting the first raptor from the squad. First time I've tried painting a (nearly) whole Imperial Fist, so any advice on painting yellow would be appreciated.

Raptors are coming along, just have to choose weather to equip the champ with a lightning claw and combi-melta or a power weapon and plasma pistol.

Went back and stripped the paint off the dozer of the first vindicator I painted and re-painted it to match the other vindy.
I generally run 3 vindicators in my lists so will be getting another to fit in with the line breaker formation better than my puppets war big momma vindy.
The puppets war one is also getting stripped with plans to turn it into a possessed one with bits from the corpse cart kit.

Here's a pimped out rhino I've been working on for my chosen. Probably the most expensive first blood machine out there, cost around $145nzd to put together. It's a labour of love really.
Kind of feel it need something on the sides to break the silver/gold theme, thinking maybe adding another metallic colour like balthasar gold to the exhausts and other bits.

Just a quick update with a group shot of all my (nearly) finished armour. The land raiders and Shadow sword need a bit of work before they are done.

On the to do list is, another basilisk and medusa, a bombard, a manticore. Two more predators, another vindicator another landraider 3 more rhinos, a storm eagle and and helldrake.

Not sure if I should be posting back to back post's like this, but I've been busy so here we go.

Finished the first raptor. This was a lot of fun to paint and learnt a fair bit about painting yellows.
Let me know what you think.

Just a quick WIP of the raptors. Feel like I went too dark on the wash, but still have to do highlights and what not so it can still be fixed.

Also Finally got round to finishing my unnamed Warsmith/Counts as Abbadon conversion.

Time to paint.

Thanks, really appreciate the feedback.

Heres the Warsmith as he stands today.
Going to try out the new Nihlakh Oxide technical on the demonic face and gargoyle on his hammer.
Should be fun.

Also got the corpse cart bits stripped an onto the dozer blade of my demonically possesed Vindicator.

Great work on these. I'm loving the conversions. What did you use to make counts-as-Abbadon? I need to get back to my own Iron Warriors at some stage.

If I'm not mistaken he used the forge world per heresy Abbadon as the base

Yeah you are quite right indeed.

Been busy today. Decided I need to make a Relic Predator with Plasma Destroyer turret.
Quite pleased with how it's coming along.

The turret looks great. Are you using the comb method for the pipes or is it the Greenstuff industries template?

I have a set of tube tools very similar to the greenstuff industries ones, got them from here - http://masqmini.com/index.php/bees-sculpting/tools-n-stuff/tubetool.html

Heres a quick objective marker I made last night before I went to bed.

Just a quick update on the warsmith.
Started doing the power field over his hammer, but i'm on the fence about the results.
So what do people think? Acceptable result? Fixable? Or start over?

Ps his eyes are super cool!

Yeah I think that was the issue, much happier with it now.

The eyes weren't done in that pic, sort of happy with them now, but took a few tries to get it right.

Heres how he looks now, still not done so C&C is appreciated.

This was what I was going for with the hammer.

Lockark wrote:Loveing the Iron Warrioirs. I'm planning on starting a zone mortalis force of them soon. May have to steal some ideas from you.

Were did you get thows little iron skulls from that you glued onto the tank and the chest of the PA warsmith?

Can't wait to see the posses vindi

The skull on Lieutenant Dristoro is hand sculpted.
The one on the Warsmith's chest is a push mold from the old metal Warsmith's chest.
The one on the Predator is a push mold from the forgeworld IW rhino doors.

Made an Iron Warriors top hatch for my rhinos out of plasticard, which I'll cast a bunch of to retro fit all my Rhinos.

Designed so it can be hinged and still open up without jamming.

And lastly added some generic "chaos trim" and symbols (from the hellblade kit) to the Relic Pred to give it more of a traitor vibe without making it look like a porcupine.

I used the pre-heresy Iron Warriors tansfers from BOLS found here

Azazelx wrote:Continued great stuff here. The Plasma turret kicks all kinds of arse. I really like the way you've converted that main weapon from a Maulerfield(?) That rhino top hatch is absolutely outstanding, and if you ever find a couple of spare casts, I'd be happy to reimburse you for your time, materials and postage.

I'm sure we can come to some sort of deal. Just gotta get the hang of casting first.

On that note heres one of the first decent casts of the rhino doors, had a few bubbles but nothing as bad as my first attempts.
The trim is from the awesome templates that Subtle Discord has done over on B&C found here.

Update on the raptors. Just need to get some space marine transfers and bloody them up to finish them.

Relic Predator WIP. Tried a chipping medium, but am not happy with the results, made the black look crap, epcially on the front.

WIP Dakka Havoc Squad.

Heres some stuff from my existing army.

And last and certainly least are some test models for a new Traitor guard scheme.

Some finished havocs.
Having a lot of fun with this squad, and they are no slouches on the battlefield either.

My next project involves my current raptor champion, who, in game after game feths up big time.
My last game against a friends Flesh Tearers was the last straw, the squad missed their deepstrike meaning only two of the three meltas (one being a combi-melta) were in range.
Then he had the audacity to die in a challenge to a tactical squad sergeant. At least he didn't get a chance turn tail an run like other games.
Any way his failure is unacceptable and as a result of his continued disappointment he shall be entombed in a dreadnought I got given by a friend.
One of the old metal toe breakers, I'm thinking along the lines of a multimelta and a sweet siege hammer, like in the start of Storm Of Iron.

Finally found some Space marine transfers, so the raptors are done.
Still need to decide how to deck out the champ, Combi melta and lighting claw or plasma pistol and power weapon.

As always, thanks for the comments, the more comments you leave the more motivated I get to do more.

Here's the latest two models to clog up my WIP pile, another melta gunner and a Huron counts as.

Cheers, the metal gunners been a wip for a while, reckon the imperail guy needs some gore on his back where he's being held.

Look what just arrived on my desk.
Is this normal for the chain weapon arm?
I've never had forge world bits on this type of sprue, only finecast.

The new home of my shamed raptor champion.
Wanted to try create a dread with a siege hammer like in the start of Storm of Iron, I reckon he looks Iron Warriors as feth.
The main body of the hammer is mostly plasticard with a chaos knights mace as the end.
The arm is a magma cutter from the mauler fiend kit.
Body is the Iron Warriors dread from forge world, the radical reaper auto cannon is forge world also.

Since I had a few people ask how I did the gore on my raptors I took some pictures while doing a small patch on my melta gunner in order to show you how i do it.

Firstly I dab a bit of super glue on the origin of the gore then add a blob of greenstuff on top.
The super glue just keeps it there so the next step is easier.

This is the tool I use. As you can see it's very similar to a dentists pick but anything with a point will do, a tooth pick or sewing needle.

Then you just start tearing bits of green stuff off of the blob. It's fine to actually remove some green stuff here, it should be forming "ribbons" now.

Thats pretty much it, just manipulate the ribbon to dry in the direction you want the gor flying/falling and you're done.
Now just paint it red and slather tamiya clear red over it all.

Love what you have been doing. All the little touches like the shovel or the hammer here or there. Awesome. I think yours might be my favorite Iron warrior army i have seen. Really like the counts as abadon.

Thanks a lot for the feed back. It's a major theme I try to convey with my IW's is that first and foremost they are siege specialists and certainly no strangers to putting steel to stone.

Got The steel colours done and the foundations for golds and chevrons down on my dreadnought.

Hes got one more chance to reclaim his glory before his soul is bound to an earthshaker cannon, but if you think he's going toe to toe with your Furioso you are dreaming.
In fact your Furioso's going to have a little surprise next time we clash.

Here's the latest progress on this dread anyway.

These guys, what parts did you use for them? Also, where do you get all your hammers?

They are the Anvil Industries black ops, with head gun, and sholder guard swaps. You get some seriously awesome bits in the set, and the casting quality is some of the best I have seen.

As far as hammers go, Huron's is from the FW cat terms, the havoc's one is from the baneblade kit and the two handed champions one is from a blood angels kit I think. Any others you were wondering about?

Here's a sneak peek at my latest piece of dreadnought madness.

Also Rat-corpse666 sent me this sweet IW patch

So this is the contemptor as he stands at the moment, still plenty to do including filling out the detail on the butcher cannon, adding rivets (scale rivets from titchy trains in the post.), and possibly adding more chaosness to the trim mainly on the shins and shoulders, thoughts? He still needs to be based also and will be tearing an imperial fist limb from limb and throwing half the corpse away with plenty of gore like my raptors.

What do you think? Any improvements you can think of?

Again thanks for the positive replies.

The small hammers are from the baneblade kit.

"You are not strong enough brother BEGONE!!!!"

Excellent work

I may have missed it, but will there be ammo drums or a hopper for the twin reapers?

Heh not intentional but totally makes sense as that armless raptor is the previous champion of my raptors, and he most certainly is not strong enough.

Yeah definitely gonna put some drum mags on the butcher cannon, I was going to use the imperial guard autocannon ones but the just seem kinda whimpy for such a large gun, may have to scratch build something.

Just read Tallarn: Executioner, an now i'm hooked on the idea of a traitor guard tank company so expect to see more armour in the future.

Also had some stuff arrive, masses of rivets, IW mkIII shoulder pads (finally) and other FW goodies.

Started work on my traitor guard armoured company starting with a Chimera.
I want them to looka fair bit different from the loyalist ones so went with a stepped back turret and auto cannon instead of a multi laser.

Also got the converted devil dog of trademe so stripped the paint with simple green, needs some patching as some of hk was done with cardboard and disintegrated when getting stripped.

I've got a mars pattern leman russ coming from forge world and another regualr one from the states.

Cheers for the comments.

Just a quick one of the Chimeras side armour, the idea being that its there to absorb the impact & energy from a shaped charge.
