Hey guys, I'm brand new to nids, but I thought I would start making lists using the units I like most. I absolutely love the swarmlord and trygon, definitely my favourite monstrous creatures. I'm much more fond of hormagaunts instead of termagaunts, because I believe Tyranids should RIP AND TEAR their enemies. So here's my 750 point list, and tips or general tyranid tactics would be greatly appreciated.
HQ:
The Swarmlord - 280

Troops:
18 Hormagaunts - 108

18 Hormagaunts - 108

Heavy Support:
Trygon - 250
- Prime Upgrade
- Adrenal Glands

Total: 746 Points

Lets try to not make more chaos gods, ok guys?
I'd call this thread a trainwreck, but trainwrecks are legitimately horrifying to watch. This is hilarious.

It looks fun but you should probably throw in a tervigon just for scoring. Give it crushing claws and 3 biomancy powers if you like so it can TEAR (it can only cast 1 power a turn but it gives you better odds of rolling warp speed or iron arm :-)

Swarm lord is a bit crazy at 750 but if you do take him then buy a single tyrant guard so majority toughness is still the swarm lords if you get iron arm. For added hilarity add a prime so the groups got 10Wounds at majority toughness T8 w (is swarmy 5? Cant remember). That is assuming you get your iron arm

I'd never take adrenalin on MCs with str 6 your wounding most on a 2+ already and you will be using smash vs vehicles and T5 multi wound annyways.

Hormagaunts become alot better with toxin sacks

I'd take a regular trygon and use the points on those sacks.

I concur, hormagaunts are infinitely better with TS. Your Swarmlord has an 18" synapse bubble, but none of those units will be negatively effected by loss of synapse (unless your opponent is running any mechanical boxes).

Drop AG and the Prime upgrade from the Trygon and you can either use those points to afford a small unit of termagants for objective camping, but since hormagaunts are typically played an as offensive unit you'll need something to claim home objectives rather than sacrificing your offensive power.

Ok looking at all the advice, and figuring out what I can fit in, how's this:

HQ:
The Swarmlord - 280

Troops:
17 Hormgaunts - 136
- Toxin Sacs

16 Hormagaunts - 128
- Toxin Sacs

Heavy Support:
Trygon - 200

Total: 744 Points

Plan is to roll on Biomancy table for the swarmlord, crossing fingers for that Iron Arm. Deploy at the very edge of my zone, and run up the board. Trygon probably comes in on turn 2 thanks to swarmlord and deep strikes on enemy's flank or rear. For this point level I'm counting on the enemy to not being able to deal with the swarmlord AND a trygon. Any criticism is appreciated guys, so keep it coming. (Disclaimer: I know I don't have any units to sit on objectives, but it's tyranids, why sit around when there's biomass to eat?)

Lets try to not make more chaos gods, ok guys?

Don't deepstrike Trygon...Trygon should be able to make combat by T2, if it doesn't then T3.

If you deepstrike it, earliest it can arrive is T2, with the potential to not come in at all until T4.

Plus you add to target saturation.

Ok sounds good, I'll think I'll start building towards this list.

If you are an experienced hobbyist, consider magnetising the Hive Tyrant, don't stick all 4 swords on because you'll likely want to play him as a winged one at some point in the future. Especially with the nids book comming out sometime soon, they might nerf old swarmy (I'm thinking at the very least he will be downgraded to a level 2/3 psyker and probably loose his 'you reroll succesfull invulns'. On the plus side he will probably gain an invuln vs shooting.
