Hello all,

I'm looking for a little help from the community; About 3 months ago I finished painting a white scars space marine army that had been shelved for over a decade, with the exception of my bike command squad. When I came to the 40k forums looking for advice on how to equip them, I was informed about the new codex coming out and that it would probably be best to wait and see. So here I am again now that the codex has been out for a bit, wondering what you guys think of bike command squads in general, and how would you equip them if you were going to take one?

It might help in your analysis to know what i have, and ill preface with the fact that my list is not really battle tested other than a few small games, and some of the units might not even be legal anymore. That sort of thing is a minor annoyance, but I rarely play and when I do its in friendly pickup games, and i guess i have a pretty fluffy list, so no one seemed to mind.

Captain: Bike, Relic Blade
Max Scout Squad: 2 Sniper Rifles, Missile Launcher
Max Bike Squad: Vet Sarg w/Powerfist, 2 Melta, Attack Bike w/MultiMelta
Max Tactical Squad: Rhino, Vet Sarg w/Powerfist, Flamer, Heavy Bolter
Tactical Squad (6): Razorback w/TwinLascannon, Plasmagun, Lascannon
Assault Squad (5): Vet Sarg w/Powersword, Plasma Pistol
Speeder Squad (2): Extra Heavy Bolters
Speeder: Multimelta
Predator: TwinLascannon, Heavy Bolter Sponsons

Now, I have Modeled most of the command squad already: I wanted them to be my close combat counter charge unit, both be durable and able to put the hurt on stuff once they close the gap. I made a champion and an apothecary, and technically have one of the troopers holding a banner so he could be a banner bearer or just a regular trooper. The last two guys have a unique sword thing, with two parallel blades coming out of a normal hilt... This could be played as a sword, or one of the other power weapon options as it looks very distinct. I was considering getting a storm shield or two for heavy weapons fire, but that adds up fast after the power weapons. I also like the idea of having flamers to take advantage of my ability to maneuver on the bikes to optimal angles, they were only 5 points in the last codex so that seems like a steal.

Thoughts from the internet?

Your'e best to go either melee or shooty with them. If you try to do both they end up being a points sink that isn't good at any one thing.

I personally prefer shooty. Four of the same gun with an apothecary.

Just my opinion tho.

Oh, and maybe two storm shields to sit up front, but only if you've got spare points at the end of your list.

The best bet from a competitive aspect is to run your captain as Khan (relic blade looks perfect as moonfang) and run the command squad with 5 grav guns and 2 strorm shields.
