Frothing Warhound of Chaos

My first official romp with the chaos gods will be in an escalation setting. Now I have to figure out how to make Chaos work at this points level. As a secondary piece of intelligence, I found out that nearly all of my opponents will be xenos - mostly eldar, with a tau player thrown in there.

My first instinct is to throw in some noise marines to ignore eldar cover save shenanigans, but I'm unfamiliar with the dynamics of this level and nervous about investing 150 or so points into five models.

Plague marines at this level would be fun as well, but again, silly expensive to have any number of them.

Should I just try to maximize boots on the ground with vanilla chaos marines, throw them in boxes and grab a chaos lord for warlord? Or is it worth it to grab one of the cult variants?

To annoy people:

Bare sorcecror
2x10 cultists
2x heldrakes

Hide and burn things. Hope nobody brings terminators or av14.

A good list i like is;

Warpsmith with tzeetnch and SoC
2xSqauds of 10 man CSM with meltas/Plas

I dunno how many points that is but it should be enough

Chaos Lords with the Black Mace are very powerful in low point games. The chance to score extra wounds has a bigger impact than it does in higher points games.

I found a Chaos Sorcerer with burning brand, master level 3 and MoT (155pts) at this level is good for a Warlord. Also a chaos lord with MoK, Jump pack, lightning claws and sigil of corruption (145pts) is fun to use.

To accompany that several small units of MoN chaos marines (100pts each) to capture objectives.

For 500 points I would take this:

Sorcerer 155pts (As listed above)

2 x Chaos Marines 100pts
- MoN

Terminators (3) 110pts
- MoT

That leaves 35pts to mess around with, this could be boon rolls for each champion and melta bombs for the Sorcerer.

That in my opinion is a solid list you have a solid 4 man unit which can kill many things and two small 5 man squads to capture objectives.

Frightening Flamer of Tzeentch

Is it not worth giving the Chaos Sorcerer the Disc of Tzeentch for the extra mobility and +1 toughness in these low points lists?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also get around the restrictions in some low points games against units with 2+ saves (Taking the disc instead of Terminator Armour)

The disc may work better actually with the burning brand he is effectively a flamestorm cannon wielding skimmer that can cast spells!
