Hey all. I have heard that wraithknights and/or riptides can issue and accept challenges. Reading through the rules this seems to not be the case. Am I missing anything? Can they accept challenges?

Are they Characters?

Only a MC that is also a Character can issue and accept Challenges.

Dreadknights are characters, but Riptides and Wraithknights are not IIRC.

Being a MC has no specific interaction with you being able to issue and accept challenges. You need to have the Character rule to do that.

And Wraithlords. Also Old One Eye.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

While we're rattling off MC (Character) units, I'll throw Nemesis Dreadknights onto the list. Which sucks when they get nominated as the target of a CSM Murder Sword and then have to spend the game avoiding said sword bearer...

When your MC is the size of a regular 25mm model, you tend to forget he is an MC. Except when it counts.

How you play with it

My partner has the Epic model Avatar, which is even smaller than the GW one. Has the FW one as well, but if anyone gets funny about them using it just pulls out the other as well, and poitns out that Grots give the avatar a cover save now....

Would be amusing to see the "Avatar Lineup"
Epic, Rogue Trader, 40k and FW

You mean like the one here? Thank you Shandara.

No I think the little one is actually from the Rogue Trader days. So its 40k, FW and then RT.

Regardless of the size of either the Grots or the Avatar, the MC will get a cover save if any part of shooting LoS must be drawn through the gaps between the Grots.
I think that's how it works. I recall being incredulous and mildly outraged at silliness of this potential. (The FW Avatar getting a cover save from a unit of Grots/Ratlings because the shorties are between the Devastator Squad and the Avatar.)
