I'm building a tau list for a friend but I'm struggling on what to take, especially for HQ, I heard there is a double riptide list that is pretty nails at 600 points. What do people think of that? This list needs to be as competitive as possible as it's a stand alone army not doubles for a tournament. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'd run something along the lines off:

fireblade

190 riptide: ion gun, TL fusion blasters, EWO,

108 12x firewarriors
90 10x firewarriors

55 5x pathfinders

94 broadside +2x missile drones /w HYMP, SMS, EWO

597 pts

This army gives you a basic gunline built around the riptide. It would be very difficult to run an army with 2 riptides. You'd be looking at 2 riptides, an ethereal and 2 minimal troops choices. I think having nearly 2 full firewarrior teams, pathfinders, and the broadside is worth more than a single riptide.

That is a very very solid Tau List. I would consider splitting the full firewarrior squad into two smaller squads for a bit more tacital flexibility. The Fireblade still has a home in the 10 man squad.
