If I were interested in AvP minis and if it does turn out to be an AVP mini/game KS, I'd be wary of backing it. After all, many people still haven't gotten their Warzone KS minis yet. And resurrecting a system means a lot more than making a KS release and calling it a day. Remember, if they do neglect WZR, they may as well abandon the next game as well...

Of course, this is all unsubstiantiated hate because I'm jealous of their financial success

Meh, as long as the figures are great, it could be worth backing on the basis of the figures alone. Warzone is a line of figures pretty strongly linked to one series of rules. However, there's a long line of Alien and Colonial marines figures (both licensed and "not") as well as many different rulesets that have been heavily influenced by Aliens.

For my $, cupporting an Aliens kickstarter is much more dependent on the figs than rules. There's plenty of options for rules, but there hasn't been a line of plastic figs (not couting clix) that capture this subject matter.

There have been alot of metal and resin options though...

Despite all those, I think that a cohesive range of models, in plastic, and as accurate to the subject matter as only a licensed product can be, has the potential to surpass all of the options presently available. I will be watching with considerable interest.

Since warzone is going to be all resin (they tried plastic for some rank and file troops but were not satisfied with the quality they could get with it) I think it's unlikely that this will end up plastic

but we'll all have had a chance to look at their warzone resin (hopefully) by the time this launches so we can make an informed choice

Thanks for that. I hadn't been following the warzone thread. Does change the equation a bit for me. Could still be tempted into buying in, but it's have to be a great figs and a good deal.

Liking the teaser with the Smart gun.

The price discussion is interesting. $10 per, is a pretty steep price, especially since you could consider most of the Colonial marines "heroes". I'm sure a fair number of folks would buy in, but I have a feeling it would be hard to sustain a game at that price. I think most folks would want more than a squad of colonial marines to play with.

Still, it's all conjecture at this point. Will be looking forward to more reveals.

At 28mm scale, both would be... pretty big.

My Aliens Technical Manual seems to be MIA (moving twice in the last 9 months will do that), but a little google and some quick napkin math indicate the Dropship would be around 16 inches long.

I'm not terribly familiar with Warhammer, but a cursory googling indicates that this would be comparable to some pretty hefty models. It's only an assumption, but based on the novels, movies and comics I've read, it feels more like a skirmish level game rather than one of larger warfare, which generally means a smaller combat area.

Basically, I could see some form of outline 'terrain' piece for the APC, but the dropship would... a hell of a thing.

There's already a couple of companies making really nice versions of the alien's APC

Khurasan

Who also makes a smaller similar vehicle for those with a smaller budget and table space.

Scotia Grendel has the sort-of-inspired-by"version that's been avaialble since the 90's

There are a couple other companies doing similar models on a smaller and sporadically avialble scale.

You're right about the dropship though. There was a model kit avaialble in the past, but IIRC it was 1/72 and still quite large. However, if there is significant interest (and there might well be for this property) I wouldn't be surprised if a dropship made an appeance. Heck, the Grizzly (albeit a smaller version) made it into the Warzone KS.

Hmmm how easy/hard is it to get the Khurasan stuff in the UK anyway? Had my eye on that APC for awhile, just import always seemed like too much hassle for a single kit.

They'll ship anywhere if they have it in stock. I've bought alot of stuff from the UK without any hassle. I'm not sure how much more difficult it would be going the opposite way.

Here's a 1/48 scale model by another company.

Sorry I didn't realize the inital pic was a modified necron. I resized the marine determined by the width of the base. Due to differances in the camera angle it's not precise but it'd be pretty close.

The marines appear to be on 30mm bases; which using the bases as a measurement looks to place the smart gunner at about 34-35mm tall and the slightly hunched figure to the left appears to be about 32mm. (due to being hunched) Obviously I'm just working from pictures but they seem ever slightly taller than GW models.

The proportions on the models are great, I like a more realistic focus than what GW uses which is one of the reasons I like Infinity figures so much. The detail on the figures is killer as they really did their homework to match the movies, so definately no complaints there.

(As I mentioned before I'm fine with whatever scale they are in as I'll be using them for their own game (or the old leading edge Aliens game) and not mixed with GW).

I love what I'm seeing so far and cannot wait for this to get released.

This pic is still a bit off-putting Looks like they're looking to be at least 32mm (to the eye). That's not terrible, but with my sci-fi collection much more on the side of 28mm, that's a significant difference. I could still be persuaded by a great deal, but in general I like for my human figures to be of similar size.

On the plus side, these will likely scale well with many current lines including Infinity, Reaper Chronoscope (especially the IMEF and NOVA troopers), AT43, and others.

If any of you were wondering what the subtext of the Alien movies were, here's the story -

Dan O'Bannon, Alien Screenwriter wrote:Oh, we're not joking. Our goal isn't to paste a bunch of out-of-context shots or lines of dialogue to make some spurious case. We'll let Alien screenwriter Dan O'Bannon spell it out himself:

"One thing that people are all disturbed about is sex... I said 'That's how I'm going to attack the audience; I'm going to attack them sexually. And I'm not going to go after the women in the audience, I'm going to attack the men. I am going to put in every image I can think of to make the men in the audience cross their legs. Homosexual oral rape, birth. The thing lays its eggs down your throat, the whole number.'"

Hence the sexualised imagery for a lot of their stuff.

And I think actually in a lot of the original Giger artwork. It's pretty disturbed, perverse looking stuff..

Yeah, from a sexual perspective, Giger's work on Alien is his most tame. A basic google image search will show you want I mean. Alot of it's NSFW, so I won't link it here.
By comparison, in Giger's work outside of Alien, it seems that women are by far the ones violated the most often.

Definitely a roller coaster ride. The deal improved enough recently to warrant a second look but in the end I just didn't feel it personally. I'll definitely pick up a predalien and female pred though when they hit the store shelves to go along with my clix. Since you guys will be getting them early, I look forward to seeing early preview pics as the backers start to get their minis.

Same here.

If the game gets good reviews, I will probably pick up the rulebook and maybe the boxed game to use with my large AVP Horrorclix collection. If they ever do one piece figures, I will buy a ton of those as well.

This is my reaction as well. Might grab the rulebook at some point, and maybe a squad of the Yutani troopers. However the Colonial marines were the main selling point for me and the price per trooper was to high for me to acquire the platoon of marines that I'd want.

Still, I'm glad it did well. Should prove a nice entre' into wargaming for non-wargamers, and it's definitely a nice addition to the selection of wargames currently available. I hope it delivers a good product and sells well into the future.
