The text for the chaos icons reads:

"All models with the Mark of Khorne in a unit equipped with icon of wrath.."
and the others read in a similar fashion.

Does this mean that an independent character (such as a Chaos Lord) joining said unit benefits from the icon as well? Thus a MoS Chaos Lord benefitting from a unit that has the Icon of Excess for the Feel No Pain save, and so on.

And if this is true, does that mean sticking Abaddon (who technically has all chaos marks) benefit from whichever Icon the unit was in?

As long as the IC has the respective Mark, he will benefit from the Icon.

Yes, any IC (including Abaddon) with the mark will benefit.

An Independant Character is a member of the unit for all rules purposes.

Thats what I thought, just double checking. Giving Abs a FNP save on top of everything else. good grief.

In the case of say the icon of wrath. only mok models get fc but the unit regardless of mark gets the +1 to combat resolution and charge move reroll. you need to read the icons rules to see what the unit gets and what marked models in the unit get.
