So I'm building towards starting my second 40K army. The Ghost Tigers will be a mech heavy Imperial Guard army. (my first army has been Necrons - so very simple to paint)

I'm throwing up a reference pic of my first go at trying a tester model. My test was done on the clip together Cadians. I am planning to use Cadians from the Shock Troops box and am headswapping them all. Ive got loads of heads now. Quite a lot are visored, quite a few bald with respirators, a bunch with dreadlocks and some of these "African American" heads:

which haven't arrived yet, but I'm quite excited about purely cos the one on the top left corner is the spit of Wesley Snipes.

Anyway, I like the ghosty eyes (got some good fluff to justify it coming together) and the idea of having a bunch of Tiger patterned Vendettas and LRBTs.

Basically a couple of questions:

is this quality Table Top standard?

And what do folk think would be a cool way to base them?

(I kinda hate the slotty base thing after my experience of going straight on with the Necrons' feet. Is it okay to just chop the slotty thing off and stick them by their feet or will they all end up like Michael Jackson in the Smooth Criminal video?)

The top half of the model is really blurry in the picture for some reason. I love the tiger camo its not something I have seen on a mini before, its pretty awesome!

As far as basing goes, I would try and pick some terrain that supports thier camo without drawing attention away from the model. So, like some orange and green brush.

And yes, you can cut the bar off the feet, it's just easier to use a non-slotted base after that.

This is an awesome paint scheme, loving the camo.
I think t should be based with some dried, knee high grass and some waist high tufts, maybe some of the wildflowers that Army Painter sells

Hadn't thought of doing long grass! That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the kind words re: colour scheme. Quite excited at the thought of army of it! And it was quicker than I expected.

Looks table top standard to me, an army of those would look good on any 40k battle board.

Great camo scheme by the way., for the base I would prob go with long dark green flock with the odd bit of dark slate. Just think it would make the orange really 'pop'.
