Hello all

So I've recently started a Necron army and I'm looking at adding in some Triarch Praetorians to them.

I know wraiths cost 5pts less, and there are many other units capable of doing what Praetorians plus more for a cheaper cost, but I would still like to use them.

My main plan is to use them in tandem with another unit, and I'm going to go out on a wing here, but possibly use them with a Triarch stalker as a dedicated anti infantry squad (re-rolls on the staff shooting attack)...and also a fluffy combination :3

any advice on how to use these effectively (so don't tell me to take wraiths instead, I know, I have some already), would be mighty appreciated.

If you're set on using them I believe the most effective way is a 10 man squad with Voidblades and Particle casters. Attach a Destroyer Lord with Red Orb.

Because the Praetorians are fearless they will always get their RP roll (provided of course they're not all killed) and the Lord provides them with Preferred Enemy.

Put the Lord up front with sempiternal weave to tank any non-AP2 hits and Look Out Sir the rest.

Very expensive and there are definitely better units but if you want to run them this is how to do it IMO.

By the 37 keys of Tzeentch,We open the way for our brothers,
By the 1000 whispers of Slaanesh we call to them,
By the 12 plagues of Nurgle we fell their enemies,
And by the mighty axe of Khorne we cut open the world for them!

I'd say stick with the rods of the covenant personally, the shots are just better than the extra attack, ability to kill things on overwatch (using preferred enemy)
They need a D-Lord with a 2+, WS and MSS and an Orb to really be effective

Bedouin Dynasty: 10000 pts
The Silver Lances: 4000 pts
The Custodes Winter Watch 4000 pts

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum.

I have not used mine in a while, but I was using them as vehicle hunters/monster hunters for a while. I have mine armed with Voidblades and particles casters and ran them in two units of 5. Deep strike in (usually using Zahndrehks ability - in the opponents turn)) and then hit something hard my following turn. It isn't fool proof, it takes planning and cagey play, but they're pretty good for it.

With Str 5 entropic touch and rending they dont need to kill a M/C, just wound it and suddenly the armor is gone, and we all know what entropic touch does to vehicles.

hmm...interesting answer to a Riptide list, stripping away armor

It certainly helps to mitigate the AP - of all the Tesla Destructors.
