As anyone who has read my recent posts will be aware of, I’m getting back into the game and am trying to decide on a new army to start collecting I was thinking Chaos for some time, but am now possibly leaning towards Eldar. I wanted to know what people thought of this list before I started buying any models.

Farseer, jetbike, the runes that let him reroll psychic roll (don’t have codex in front of me at the moment)
Jetbike squad, standard

Dire Avengers x5, Wave serpent, holofields, shruiken cannon, scatter laser

Fire Dragons x5, Wave serpent, holofields, shruiken cannon, scatter laser

Wraithgaurd x5, d-scythes, Wave serpent, holofields, shruiken canoon, scatter laser

Warp spiders x5

War walkers x2, each w/ x2 brightlances

Wraithknight, standard

I think this comes out to like 1474 points, if I remember correctly. It seems solid enough, but I’d also really like to get a spiritseer in there if possible, for the wraithknight and wraithguard and to make the wraithguard scoring. I don’t know where to pick up the extra points, however. Thoughts?

lookd good. drop the runes of winessing from the farseer.

drop the fired ragons, with the war walekrs and wraithknight you will have enoguh anti tank.

get another 5 man dire avenger squad instead for that serpent. then get Mantle of the laughing god for the farseer.

I get dropping the dire dragons in regards to having a lot of anti-tank already, but what do the dire avengers bring besides another scoring unit? I can’t imagine a unit of 5 dire avengers would really bring, well, much of anything to the table. The only reason I have one unit listed already is to get the wave serpent. Would it not make more sense to get maybe another unit of jetbikes and a spiritseer to make the wraithguard scoring? I guess then you lose a wave serpent though…

You pretty much nailed this already. But the second DA unit adds some needed scoring and allows you to keep the serpent of the battlefield.

I'd go for two DA units in Serpents, and either for one FD squad in a Serpent or one WG unit in a Serpent.
Warwalkers are better equipped with scatterlasers. Anti-heavy tank comes already from FD, WG, and WK.

I'd drop the fragons, and the runes. Take a standard 5 man DA squad to keep the serpent. Then you might have enough points for a spiritseer! If you don't quite have the points, then the walkers holo fields would be next to go, in my opinion, D-Scythe flame throwing toughness 6 scoring mobile wraiths is in fact the future!

But what if the wraithguard have d-scythes? Then they're not really anti-vehicle at all.

And yeah, I'm coming around to the idea of dropping the Fire Dragons for dire avengers to try and fit the spiritseer. I'll have to run the math when I have the codex in front of me. Also, do people think the bog standard version of the wraithknight is viable? I like his heavy cannons, but I almost feel like I'm wasting him somehow but not putting cc options on him...then again nothing else in my army is geared to cc so he wouldn't have any support...

I think putting anything close combat on him is pointless. He's a MC, so he's already AP2 in combat! The only thing the glaive gets you is a re roll of a 1 to hit. Pointless I think. Personally, the standard load out is the best load out. I think the Suncannon is too expensive, and the eldar have better anti infantry options. Plus if you give him that Cannon, you need to add a second weapon, to make his output it's best, with him being able to fire two weapons a turn. That makes him 300 odd points! Keep him standard, it's the best way. And I think it's quite cheap for what he gives you! His cannons are awesome, but he does excell in combat in my experience! Killed numerous heavy armoured tanks and riptides and such!

And d scythes can take out tanks if you're lucky, but you are right, they're not very good at it!

Yeah, lack of troops is the biggest thing. You have 8 scoring models. I can appreciate lists that play for the secondaries, but ignoring your primary objectives just seems... bad.

If taking wraithguard might as well take a spiritseer to make them troops. Gives them rerolls to hit of 1 and scoring toughness 6 units for 70 points. Also can take conceil and psychic shriek for a cover save and a nice anti infantry/monstrous creature power.. Nothing like killing a big baddy with a 3d6 LD check... Bye bye riptide, bye bye swarmlord if lucky

ehh wraithgaurd are best with d scythes.

now never ever give the wraithknight the sword. its really useless. now the 2 S10 guns arent amazing, and in reality wont do a whole lot, but it soaks up fire power allot, and will still do damage.

You have to have two units of troops and the DA do it best when inside the Wave serpents,
also for only 1500 odd points the suncannon costs to much for the WK and hes good vanilla anyway
I really dont think holo fields is needed because most of the time the points are better spent elsewere.
for the FS mantle is a must when using a jet-bike and runes with their one use only is a fail (thanks GW).
Also warp spiders are great for everything now so try to keep them in war walkers can go 1 ScL and BL each making the BL twin-linked.

Hope what i have to says helps and good luck with your Eldar collecting!

Cheers

Alright alright, so here is an updated list I’ve come up with based on people’s suggestions. It certainly helps flesh out the scoring units I have available. Let me know what people think.

Farseer w/ jetbike
Jetbike squad (x3) w/ x1 shruiken cannon

Spiritseer
Dire Avengers (x5)
Wave Serpent w/ shruiken cannon, scatter laser, holofields

Dire Avengers (x5)
Wave Serpent w/ shruiken cannon, scatter laser, holofields

Wraithguard (x5) w/ d-scythes
Wave Serpent w/ shruiken cannon, scatter laser, holofields

Warp spiders (x5)

War Walker (x2), both with x2 bright lances

Wraithknight, bog standard

Comes out to like 1496, I believe.

Only thing i would change is have BL on wave serpents and scatter lasers on war walkers, otherwise a hard list to fight
