Hello everyone!

I am brand new to 40K, so please be patient

I want to build a SM army, not so much to play, but because I love the modelling and painting. I want to create my own chapter (because I just have to be difficult, lol) and though my main focus will not be playing, I still want it to be legal, playable and have strong theme.

I am a big believer in WYSIWYG, and I know it is even more important in 40K than in WHFB, so I will be creating the theme/backstory/scheme, but not proxies for equipment, etc. I figure the easiest way to do this is to pick an established chapter and just use those rules exactly (composition and rules) with my new design.

I want a fast army, and I love the SM bikes, so I plan on using White Scars rules.

Will that work with most players? Would it be tourney legal as long as I did not add/delete anything from the White Scars rules?

My plan is to have a storm/lightning theme: the Storm Brothers ("We are the lightning strike"). Purple, gray and yellow. I only have 1 SM mini, so here is a (very) rough idea for the color scheme. All feedback is welcome!

Basically, as long as you say "this army uses White Scars rules" then you can make up whatever story you want for them.

As long as its painted and coherent no one should care.
Make em wysiwyg and play them as white scars.

It only ever gets confusing with SM Allied where you use two different chapter tactics with the same color scheme

Also best to ask where ever you play and with whom as it really doesn't matter what the interweb things.

Thanks to both of you, appreciate the response. That makes me excited to get going quickly, knowing I can follow the codex info for White Scars.

Maybe someone can help me with this piece of White Scars fluff: I know they have Librarians called Stormseers, and Apothecaries called Emchi, but what about Chaplains? Can't find a direct reference yes/no for White Scars Chaplains.

In their notable characters on the 40k wiki there is a High Chaplain, Senior Chaplain and other named Chaplain so it would seem that they are similar to other chapters in their use of Chaplains and dont have a unique name for them

Decided my original color scheme was too dark- I think I like this a lot better. It looks like I have switched to white, but it is actually light gray.

Opinions?

Hey everyone! I was cleaning out some stuff and came across a surprise terminator! I don't even know where this guy came from, but I thought it was a good excuse to try out my color scheme.

Definitely like this better than my original dark version-- the light gray looks good in real life, but just looks like white in the picture. No highlights or anything yet, just a color test.
