I have been using and avatar with fast shot on an adl a few timesand found it pretty effective as anti flyer and usually at keeping a nice bubble of my opponent staying away for fear of being charged. Does anybody think this wouldbe a good strategy for competitive play? Or is it just to expensive? Basically Iget some cover for a squad of rangers if iIdecide to start there. If i take reapers they have a base. OtherwiseIjust get a 4+ vcoverfor avatar and great anti air for 290 and avatar can always ssperate and wreck havoc on anything daring enoughto get close

Id say your better off putting a dark reaper exarch on it, as he has fast shot as well as negating junk saves, all at half the cost of the avatar.

A Fast Shot Avatar on an Icarus is pretty good, but just sitting there and manning it all game is a waste of points.

This has been pretty effective for me.

Deploy Aegis forward. 1st turn, move Avatar up to Icarus and shoot it. Run to the far side still in base with it.
T2 Intercept, then move and run forward hopefully Fast Shot Melta. Or, Shoot and wait to Intercept, then proceed.

Works really well if you are going second, slows you down if you are going first.

I like this, I might have to steal it.

I have toyed with the idea of running a gunline eldar list, and completely forgoing the wave serpents (mainly to prove a point). The avatr would be in such a list to man the Icarus during turns 1-2, then becoming a countercharge element should anything get too close. Ohh, and fearless bubble for guardians is pretty awesome.

Yep, and I usually have my Spiritseer with his Wraithguard man the Icarus after him just chilling on their objective, T6 with a 2+ Cover save and BS5 on the Icarus for Turns 3+. Its hard to say no to two BS10 Skyfire Lascannons on Intercept.

I agree it is nice having the fast shot Avatar on the gun, but you should not have him camp there all game. Have a BS4/5 model ready to take his stead, as he charges out later game. Although this strategy is brilliant for a flier heavy army with plenty of assault like chaos daemons. Shoot at the FMC's, then counter charge assault units as needed.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Yep, I agree completely. Its awesome double tapping the Icarus on Intercept to follow up and double melta something on your turn as you make the switch. 6 +d6" +12 Gun is better than most think.

this could also be a nice way to deal with a drop pod flamer/ heavy flamer list. he can make those flamers just a little less effective by being up front.

Its a total waste. The Avatar is an absolute monster in cc. Don't let the Eldar know.

Well the way I use him is often with dark reapers. He keeps them fearless alonh with keeping my support battery fearless and helps keep others away usually I give the reapers and exarch with fast shot to in case the avatar needs to go crump something himself in hand to hand. I like to play keep away withdfast units like bikes and wave serpent embarked thing leaving only one anchor on the field the adl so opponent has one spot only to move towards.

I wouldn't use it in comp - there's too much of an argument over whether fast shot works on an adl at all (unless it's been faq'd and I've missed it)

Don't forget, if you're doing this (and your opponants let you), the Avatar can also take night fighting...

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

Oh i know lol, In my meta i dont even generally have an issue getting him into combat. My opponents have alot of other high dps targets they need to deal with so he is not the only thing shot at. I really dont agree with keeping him at the back just to man a gun, this is not only very unfluffy it just seems wrong.

He should be up front leading your foot troops, everytime i run him now its with about 40 concealed guardians 20 on either side of him. This gives the enemy alot to deal with its either shoot him or the fearless guardians who are getting a 3+(in cover hopefully) or at least a 5+ cover. If they neglect the guardians thats a potental 80 shirikin shots they need to deal with and with battlefocus people tend to underestamate the speed at which they can reach thier ranks.

Throw in eldrad for some powers and you got a deadly foot list, whenever my avatar hits combat he tears apart anything he touches especially now with his new rules. Also his extra wound helps even if hes only got a 5+ inv now.
