Hello dakka!
If this is wrong forum please shoot to kill.
The iron hands chapter tactics work great for my army but I hate the fluff and color schemes of the successors
I request help in coming up with background/world/color scheme. I want to begin them with the story that this chapter
Thinks augmenting oneself with machinery is wrong, however they are very machine savvy and love the aspects of tank
Warfare. They hate dreadnaughts.
I don't like red or blue colors. And I like more than one color us trim. I
Know all you geniuses are out there. Please hook me up

Well, General may have been better, but Im no mod.
step one is find a name
Step two is create a colour scheme, so you should be more concerned about fluffing out your backstory, and creating a name first.
If I may clarify, Dreads are still regarded as sacred artefacts by Marine Chapters, so hating them makes very little sense, without seeing your fluff

Okay, so I'm having trouble with the name and color scheme. I have some fluff, and I fixed part of it to make sense better with the dreadnaught.
The fluff is basically the separation is like a less intense Sons of Medusa from the Iron Hands. One uprising seargent in the first company who would eventually become the captain began condemning members of his unit for mechanically enhancing themselves. He had a reverence for the machine and belived that combining the flesh with machine does not fix the problem and actually is extremely disrespectful to the Omnissah. (I do this because i think mechanical parts on space marines look terrible, even when professionaly modeled and painted). He gained such a following that when the Iron Council found out, to nip it in the bud and prevent what may have been a civil war at its utter worst, they banished him and his followers, who then requested chapter recognition, which due to the seargent's awesome history in war and service to the Emperor, was granted. They were granted a ship to use as a fortress monastary and the (insert chapter name here) now go to war with a fleet of vehicles. Their FNP save comes from their intese training schedules which is an attempt to purge the weakness from the flesh without the implementation of bio-mechanics. (Kind of loose but I can't think of anything better) and the IWD comes from the reverance and care they give to the machine spirits as well as their now Captain, as he still believes in the theory of the Iron Council over a Chapter Master.
For names i want to avoid the words Iron and Steel as I do not like a main color of grey, black, or silver,
I don't want to use red or blue at all and I have no idea a good name or color scheme.
Any suggestions or ideas would be great.

Well, Im not going to swear by them, but some colour schemes that should work well when translated onto minis are these
just use the highlight colours as Trims etc, the panel colours for panels, and then nothing says Imperium like Gold Eagles

I don't know if this link works but if it does, what do you think about this color scheme?

Personally I play sons of medusa; but then I also play dread-heavy.
My war-clan uses red pad-trim
Green seems to be the color you are going for since you have ruled out grey, black, steel, red, and blue.

Your fluff makes little to no sense as an Iron Hands successor. If you want a chapter with a proclivity towards mechanics and the mechanicus with that fluff that they don't augment themselves, you'd be better off going with a salamanders successor. They have incredibly close ties with the mechanicus as well.

See , there in lies the problem. I love the salamanders but the IH chapter tactics fit what models I can use in the most strategic way. Automatically Appended Next Post: And the sons of medusa augment themselves Automatically Appended Next Post: And the sons of medusa augment themselves

Cool basic idea, but perhaps you're trying to have your cake and eat it too, which is fine if you can come up with some interesting fluff! Awhile ago, as an exercise I wrote out my ideas for an Iron Hands successor that also attempted to present them as a less bionicised chapter. In my mind, looking over what has already been done, like how you have chapters that are all about mobility, be they bikes or jump packs, or seige warware, or infantry etc. In this vein, Iron Hands really are the "tech-marine" army, because the flesh is weak and all that. So I thought why not have a chapter that stresses the Apothacarian. I could easily see a gifted Iron Hands Chief Apothacary getting frustrated at the fact that his patience need a tech-marine more than him, hehe, so after some chit-chat with the Iron Council, he goes off with his followers to create a new chapter. And looking at your idea of having them have a special training regimen to purge their weakness, this could go further with the application of specialized Apothacarian arts (like personal training and nutritional suppliments, hehe), or whatever your mind can come up with. Now, their heavy use of tanks could just be their fondness for well oiled machines, much like a human (Astartes) body at peak performance, etc. Or, being APothacary heavy, they're just more accepting of the idea that the flesh has its limits and what better way to augment and protect the flesh than by getting behind a tank. Well, these are just my thoughts, hope you come up with something!

So you want 6+ FNP from Bionics but you dont want Bionics....
Have you considered playing Blood Angles, they have FNP. I guess they are red as well.
Good ties with the AdMech goes two ways. Either you treat them right and they give you really nice weapons and armor(Sally) or you treat them well and make crazy bionic enhancements on yourself so you can help them tinker with stuff (IronHands)

Perhaps their Dreads are respected elders and are used for advice and only fight when their fortress monastery is under attack?
That could account for your lack of usage. You'd have to move away from the hate though. Or you can change hate for distaste, and make it like the minotaurs, where they may actually be looked at like some form of slave.
Also; for some reason a phrase came to mind because I am expecting bikes - "The quickness of steel".
Then I thought of no augments, and I think of Ferrus being concerned about the iron hands distaste for flesh. Perhaps they found some apocryphal book of the words of Ferrus or something. "Cor de Ferrum". Their mechanicum focus being on equipment, primarily armor, as the iron should be preserved, instead of the man.
The cake and eat it too comment earlier was spot on.
