Hi All,

I am looking to adapt my 5th edition Salamanders list based on the new codex. I am aiming for 1500 points, and currently I am looking at

Vulkan He'stan

Tac squad (10)
ML, Flamer, combi melta, melta bombs
Rhino
215 points

Tac squad (10)
ML, Flamer, Vet Sergeant with power weapon, melta bombs
Razorback - twin las cannon
265 points - plan is to put Vulkan here; combat squad the sergeant and 4 marines (to create a reasonable cc unit of 6), and leave behind ML and flamer (for long range shooting and overwatch protection in case or rear assault)

Scout squad (5)
4 snipers, 1 ML
Telion
124 points

Terminator Assault squad
3 thunder h/storm shield
Land raider redeemer (with multi melta)

Stormtalon gunship (skyhammer ML)

However, I am wondering if I lack sustained anti-vehicle fire power, or generally if this army is not sufficiently shooty (especially vs hordes). I have a vanilla dreadnought (from Black Reach), a couple of land speeders i can also incorporate (not as fluffy), and a drop pod that I could use. I could get hold of other models too.

Any ideas on how to improve this? Thanks!

Howdy.

You've only got two flamers and two meltas. For a salamanders list with vulkan you're not using your chapter traits to their full advantage. You should try to get more in.

If you can get the models I'd suggest dropping the termies and laindraider for two pods of sternguard armed with combi meltas and heavy flamers. Then get a third pod on your first tac squad so both sterns can drop in first turn.

It's a fairly standard practice I know, but I feel it would serve your list better than the termies as they don't get master crafted th anymore.

Agreed regarding the meltas, but doesn't Vulkan come with a flamer, and don't the flame storm cannons on the redeemer benefit from the chapter rules?

Didn't realize the TH weren't master crafted anymore. Would you consider running standard termies with a librarian and a HF instead?

IIRC all characters get to master craft a single weapon too, including sergeants, so that's gonna help.

If I had to pick terminators I would probably stay with what you've got. The lr will help.

Also, yeah, you can't take telion unless you're running um chapter tactics unfortunately.

Flamestorm Cannon don't get the advantage of salamanders CT only inf.

But the list looks good apart from that.

Hmm seems like a missed quite a few key details.

So, what if I drop the scouts the scouts, the termies, and the Razorback from the 2nd Tac squad and then:

1) put the second tac squad with Vulkan in the land raider (I know I have to mount them in turn 1, since it's not a dedicated transport for tacs)
2) put 10 sternguard (combat squad: 4 combi flamers + HF; 5 combi melta) in a drop pod with DW launcher

Now the list is much more shooty, at the expense of the resilience in CC

Vulkan

Tac squad 10 (flamer, ML, combi flamer, melta bombs) + rhino - 210
Tac squad 10 (ML, flamer, vet sergeant, power weapon, melta bombs) - 190

Sternguard (10) + upgrades + drop pod - 380

Land Raider redeemer + multi melta - 250

Stormtalon with skyhammer ML
Thunderfire cannon

total 1445
