Subject: Painting with Metallic Paints, Need a Little Help

So far most the metallic colors I've used I've been applying via dry brushing. I'm about to start my deathwing terminators this weekend and I'm planning on using a bit more metallic on them....golds mostly. Now what I've found so far is that if I don't thin them, they are pretty thick. I have some GW some army painter and some vallejo...probably sticking to the vallejo silver and gold for these fellows. However, when I try to thin them a bit, even a 4:1 with more paint makes the coverage very bad. Can anyone give me a bit better tactic when it comes to applying these paints?

Mix the Gold of your choice with a brown that you want the over all gold tone to be... ie warmer or colder....use that as your base. Thinned down of course. Youll get a better coverage and stronger hue.
Have fun

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

Put a brown or dark yellow base first before you apply the gold. The optimal basecoat will depend on the shade of gold you want: darker browns will make your gold look darker while more yellows would make it lighter. For other metallics, use black as a basecoat.

I ask what you are using to thin your paints.

Use the thin paint with rubbish coverage.
Apply in thin layers, let dry each layer itle cover after a few. This is how most painting ought to be done.
Just be sure to remove excess paint from the brush onto paper towel, to avoid pooling paint in the recesses.

I find that water dosen't really work for thinning metallic.
I use VMC thinner for my metallics and it really helps them.
