Hello. I want to use a Marine Captain on a bike with a storm shield, a gun and a power weapon. To give him these weapons I have to replace his normal weapons, usually a chainsword and a bolt pistol with two of these weapons and leave one of them out. However because I am putting him on a bike can I replace the bike's weapons (twinlinked boltgun) with a gun I buy for him?

I am wondering this because the Captain once on a bike has three weapons and normally I can replace any of these. Someone I know did say that only the Ravenwing can do this but I don't know, please help.

He can carry as many as the options in the codex allow.

Yes, but I don't know if this means he can carry three if I give him a bike or just the normal two he could take. I am assuming that he can carry a max of two weapons.

From my understanding yes he can only carry two weapons.

That way,then left

If you're talking about the newest space marine codex, you don't have to trade anything to take a storm shield, so a captain on foot could have your combination of items anyway

Ok I think that helps me out. I would like to know If he can have two weapons and the shield of terra though, it says it replaces a weapon.

Meaning can he have the shield of terra, a power weapon and an additional gun? If he is on a bike?

And then have an illegal model when this shenanigan gets FAQ'd.

If you take an eternal shield, you only have one weapon left.

If you take a ss, you still have 2 weapons.

You state that so surely. The model could easily be used with a standard ss and still be legal if it gets faq'd. That's assuming that grenades, which last I checked were in the weapon section, will be faq'd as not being weapons.

I don't think they will be FAQd as nonweapons; I think an FAQ will state that they cannot be exchanged for ranged or melee weapons.

It is currently a legal shenanigan; technically allowable but we can all be certain it was not what was intended.

Especially since the only time they can be used in Melee would be against MCs and vehicles.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Which means you can (technically) trade them for a relic.

Yet you can happily use them in the shooting phase with its shooting profile against anything. And no we cannot say for certain that it was not intended until an faq states as much. The fact remains that they are weapons with a weapon profile RAW so until otherwise stated that's what they are.

I feel The whole grenades being weapons you can swap for is just too much power playing imho. I just think its more rules lawyering, when i just want to have a fun game. I'll stick to them being just additional wargear and not weapon choices. Would be crazy (fun and expensive) to have an HQ with all 5 relics just because you "can".

If it ever gets faqed that you can actually do that, then I have no qualms with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the relic swap text the same as the chaos version of may swap one for one? And did we not come to the conclusion that the permission is only granted to swap one for one and not two for two etc?

IIRC the iPad army builder GW released with the SM iDex allows multiple relics to be taken.

Yes but somebody brought up that the army builder is made by some other shower of GW employees and not the design team. If this is the case the army builder isn't a valid source of rules IMHO.

No, the bike with twin linked boltguns is not a weapon, it is just wargear.

But in the codex they are listed in the wargear section of the armory, not the weapons section. Space Marine grenades should not counted as weapons even though they have a profile and are listed in the weapon section of the BRB.

Thankyou all, this has been very intersting so far.

A bike comes with a twinlinked boltgun.

Can the bike's twinlinked boltgun be swapped for another weapon, or even a relic?

No.The weapons available to swap out are his boltgun, bolt pistol and chainsword.

I have never seen anyone in my flgc try to swap out the grenades and hope I never do.If they were meant to be swapped, you would see something like the following in the codex " may swap frag and / or krak grenades for....x or y weapon ".

Relics state 1 weapon.

Ranged and melee weapons allow for 1 melee weapon.

Grenades are always ranged weapons; so technically swappable for relics.

Grenades are melee weapons with conditional uses; so since they are melee weapons, they can technically be swapped for ranged or melee weapons.

I would rule that as no. You purchase the wargear of 'bike,' which is inherently not a weapon. It just happens to have a weapon on it which is not tradeable as it is a part of the bikes rules.

Terminator armour is inherently not a weapon either yet the weapons that come with it are swapable. Chaos bikers are also permitted to swap the twinlinked boltgun for a special weapon.

while I am not denying that the bike's gun is a weapon belonging to the model, and thus technically swappable; the termi armour comes with the storm bolter and power sword separately, and both termi weapons and chaos bike specials are specific allowances.

Thanks everybody. You have sorted it out for me.

It will be a Captain on bike (Iron hands chapter tactics, different colours) with the Primarch's wrath (that fancy boltgun) and the shield of Terra to prevent him dying easily.

He will race about shooting people with his gun and planting melta bombs on tanks.

Thanks again.
