I have been pondering lately on purchasing a spray gun to make things easier, but am not sure how well they work or which kind of spray gun that works best. I have read that the citadel gun is either a love hate kind of deal, so I am just not sure where to begin. If anyone could lend some advice it would be most appreciated. Thank you!

Dont get the citadel spray gun!
Its a glorified toy....

The GW one is a single action siphon feed airbrush, a poor one at best I believe
Look at dual action gravity fed airbrushes with a 0.3mm nozzle
You can still run these off cans of air if you want, but that'le get expensive fast, instead most people go for a compressor. Which range from around £50 for a small light duty tank-less, upto thousands of pounds for industrial duty things with 1000L+ tanks able to run a whole factories worth of pneumatic tooling. And all levels in-between
Airbrushing however tends on the smaller side of things, and something in the region of 0.5hp with a small 3-5L tank is more than you would ever need

Airbrushes range from cheap Chinese made things, that will do the job pretty damned well for the price, they can be gotten for a similar price to the GW spray gun, and are a much better buy. Upto a few hundred for really nicely engineered and crafted pieces of artisan tooling popular choices for mini painting are Badger Krome, Iwata Eclipse, and my personal favourite Harder and Steenbeck Evolution. But a cheap one will do just fine for most needs

'Ain't nothing crazy about me but my brain. Right brain? Riight! No not you right brain! Right left brain? Right!... Okay then lets do this!!

The GW gun is basically a primer/base coater. Does it make it faster yes. Are they nice on big models yes. Can you get the detail work, sure but going to take practice.

This question is literally asked weekly.

in fact, scroll down, and you will SEVERAL airbrush threads.

Do a search, you will find a literally ton of hits, including links to videos on types of airbrushes, suggestions on compressors, favored airbrush brands and more.

You will also find TONS of posts on the gw spray gun....the executive summary: just get a real airbrush.

(by real airbrush: get a internal mix gravity feed airbrush).

You don't need an amazing brush, in fact, I would recommend against your first brush being a very high grade $300 super detail brush....you can do a lot with a basic (like the one hairy suggests) .

If you don't want to do research, then go buy a patriot 105 from amazon, and get a generic "airbrush compressor" from harbor freight.

Best of luck!
