Locally and I believe across Canada (Land of the free, and home of the brave) we've started a Great Crusade. Basically you earn tiles by defeating members of any of your enemies.

As a Tyranid player I was happy to find out that this includes one of most hated players in our local group. Frisbee King, I've played against him at tune up tournaments before this, and at a larger tournament last year. Games are always fun and fast paced with very little rules discussions as he does seem to know his when it comes to this 6th edition. He's was very polite throughout our games before this one and I shouldn't be this hostile towards him. Frisbee King got his name because he has a model of Typhus that has the Scythe under the model, so it does look like his Typhus is riding a Frisbee, he also plays Ultimate Frisbee. Always thought of him as a nice sorta fellow.

However..... There was this.

After our first game (which I won) , I left our local hangout only to find my car window as above. I was blown away that this had happened in the fairly good area we play all our games. Weirdly enough there was no sign of what cause the glass to break until about 3 days later once I got the damage all repaired and was vacuuming out my vehicle when under the seat I found this.

I'll always wonder, but have no proof.

Anyways back on track.

Our Lists.

HIVE FLEET STORMBREED

HQ - SwarmLord
HQ- Flyrant - Stranglethorn Cannon, Wings, Toxic Sacs

Doom in a spore.

Tervigon - 3 Powers, TS/AG
10 x Gribblies
10 x Gribblies

Trygon Prime
Trygon Prime

Chaos Skum

Chaos Lord Terminator Armor/Combat Familiar/ Mark of Nurgle/ Lightning Claw/ Power Fist
Terminators x 5 - 2xCombi Melta, Reaper Auto Cannon, 3x Power Weapon/ 1 Fist/ 1 Chain Fist/ Mark of Nurgle
Chosen x 5- Combibolter, 2x Plasma, Meltagun, Lascannon, Rhino
Oblit w/ Mark of Nurgle
Havocs x5 - 4x Autocannon
2 Zombie Blob Squads 10x each one close combat 1 with autoguns
Pred Tank with Auto Cannon and Two Las Cannons
Hell Brute (Proxy) - Plasma Cannon, ML
ADL w/Quad

We roll and get Big Guns Never Tire and The Crusade as our primary and secondary.
We also to my great sadness get the long table setup.

Before the game I already know I'm in trouble, the board is set up with very little LOS blocking terrain, which normally wouldn't worry me, but with this much distance to cover, I don't think I can hide everything and wait till turn 2.
My plan with this army is on turn 2 to have 2 Trygon Primes a Doom and a Flyrant right upon them. My guess is that his combined shooting will only be able to kill 1 Monster.

We roll off for Warlord traits, and guess what, he rolls a 5(I think) and gets the warlord trait that adds 1 to my reserve rolls. Suddenly I'll be needing 3+'s to get my reserves into play. Ouch.
Frisbee King also wins the roll and he will be going first.

Deployment.

I've lined up and hope to survive the shooting, I fail to seize so now its all in the role of the dice.

TURN 1 Chaos...........

The plan for Frisbee King is simple, blow up a monster, I don't have time to buff myself before the attacks start to blast me. The combined weight of the entire long range Chaos weaponry targets and destroys my Tervigon The ensuing explosion from my Tervigon wipes out 16 Gribblies

So after 1 turn of shooting I have a Flyrant and a Swarmlord with 3 Gribblies left on the board.

Flyrant rushes forward trying to get some LOS blocking from the autocannons and quad gun. He fires his Stranglethorn Cannon and it scatters horrible, completely missing the zombie blob Swarmlord takes refuge behind the ruins, I should point out at this point that my Swarmlord did NOTget Iron Arm or I would have marched his ass forward, he also rolled an 11 on his endurance test My Flyrant also did not get Iron Arm.........

Game turn 2.

With some good shooting and some bad cover saves he can actually table me this turn. Ouch.
Everything that can see fires, grounds and alas murders my Flyrant, it was a stupid move to fly him forward, he should have hid behind my lines and waited for reinforcement. He tries whatever has range to clip the Swarmlord but he can't get any damage through .

Okay so, Trygon Prime #1- I roll a 2, FML, normally for me that means he's in. But with Frisbee King's warlord trait, no deal.
Trygon Prime #2 - I roll a 2, FML......
Doom, yes a 3.

So what do you do with Doom when you know he's "Doomed"..... I plop him in the backfield near a zombie blob squad, with any luck he'll do some damage.

Dooms pulse goes off, Frisbee King take 3D6 and rolls, an 8 Doom also took a wound from the interceptor on the quad gun. With little hope Doom uses his blast attack, roll for the power and, yep double 1's...... The attack goes off at STR 2, and kills 1 zombie. However doom rolls a D3 and does 3 wounds to himself, killing DOOM

This game is not going well.

Chaos turn 3.

Yep he moves things around, and kills my spore pod :(

Poor poor spore :(

My turn 3

Both Trygons come in, the game is already lost but if they can survive I might be able to do some serious damage.
He has stationed his Warlord and the terminators in the middle of his army and I'm gonna go for them. I drop in and use as much LOS as possible on the table so that he'll have to split his fire and hope to do 12 wounds.

Chaos Turn 4

As I'd hoped his combined shooting does 4 wounds to both Trygons, they will live to fight!

Tyranid Turn 4

The Primes make their move.

Overwatch does nothing and we make combat, challenge issue and accepted by his warlord.
Combat see's his Lord do his best faceplant as he does 0 wounds to my Trygon Prime. In turn the Prime swallows the Lord whole. A nice moral victory for me.
The rest of the combat is the same with the other Trygon killing 2 more terminators.

At this point I'm happy, If I can win combat in Frisbee Kings turn I think I might be able to do a lore more damage. Swarmlord is on his way up the field now, so the chance is there! Right?

Wrong......

His terminators fail their leadership and are swept F M L

The next turn he simply cleans up the Trygons and thats it.

Sadness runs the day.

The forces of Frisbee Kings Chaos Skum win out absolute ............ This game was 100% won and lost in the first turn, my aggressive placement on this long board was foolish, I should have left some gribblies up front and hid the Flyrant and Tervigon until I knew I would be getting my support in. Once the Trygons showed up turn 3 the chaos army wasn't able to kill both, had I been able to go first or had he not added +1 to me reserve rolls I think it would have been a lot more competitive!

Thanks for reading!

Dang, I was really excited to see some 6th Edition Tyranids! Real spot of back luck in the beginning there - had things been more in your favour (like the table set up) you definitely could have seized that. Thanks for the report though, it was a good read! (and sorry about that back window, ouch!)

Thanks, my list isn't exactly a normal tournament list, but I'm looking for a strong 2nd game to see if the turn 2 strike can work at all..... I feel most 1500 point armies will stomp Doom and maybe a Trygon once they land, but if a flyrant gets close as well and everything works well on my turn 2, it could be fun.
