What the title says really.

Fateweaver 300pts

Tzeentch herald on disc, lv3 with grimoire 150pts
Tzeentch herald on disc, lv3 with portalglyph 150pts
Tzeentch herald in disc, lv2 with lesser (probably etherbalde) 105pts

10 daemonettes 90pts
10 daemonettes 90pts

7 screamers 175pts
15 seekers with icon 190pts

So all the heralds roll on divination hoping for; prescience, forewarning (of course), misfortune and scrier's gaze. No real explanation why I need those powers really. Most games, only the seekers and the council start on the board.

So what do you think?

2 wins, 1 loss. I think it's as good as it can be for 1250, but things can go wrong.

Drop the seekers and pick up a squad of Plaguebearers. Even with the Portalglyph you still only have a few scoring units and they die very easily. A smart opponent will wipe your troops out quickly since they can't effectively hurt the screamers. Also you need the locus for S6 shooting instead of S5 shooting on one of your heralds. You should have enough firepower that you don't need the seekers.

With fewer mastery levels you run the risk of not picking up Forewarning, which will hurt your army tremendously, but if you roll on Divination aggressively you might be okay. You will also need to keep Fatey on the board more than you would at higher point levels just to have an additional shooting threat.

2-1 would be my likely guess.

@Brometheus. Thanks, yeah the list works well at this points level and doesn't at the same time. A 2++ re-rollable is just about impossible to get through, and with little targets my opponent could only target my council, as long as I position my seekers correctly. But on the other hand, if I ever fail the grimoire the council will go down easy. And with only the seekers as back up/support and they're not really resilient as well.

@UncleMeat. I don't think extra scoring will help, if I drop the portalglyph straight off in turn 1, with scrier's gaze I can keep my daemonettes off, in a 5 turn game on average I should get 5 scoring units (ignoring scouring). Which IMO is enough, with eldar and tau about you need to go full on aggressive with everything you've got. So I think seekers will do better than plaguebearers and I'm sort of not putting all my eggs in one basket with the council, having the seekers in the list as well. But again that's just my opinion on it, well what ways would plaguebearers benefit the list more than the seekers?

Why no horrors? At least they can shoot. You can just pull D6 daemonettes using the Portalglyph.

Well, two fragile troop units is a bit less. As said, a smart opponent will wipe out your troops and they you're screwed.

Main question, how much experince have you got with playing screamer council?

Unlike the other tactical geniuses in this thread, I'm gonna go ahead and assume that you'll actually reserve your troops (like you said in the OP).

You've got a decent chance at going 3-0 (assuming you're proficient with the army), but there are also a few things that can go wrong. Wraithknights, Canoptek Wraiths and other hard-to-kill units will pose a real danger to locking down your Screamers. Or, you can not get Forewarning and go up against someone with Misfortune.

Since the chances of something going balls up in one of the games are fairly high, I'm gonna go wit 2-1. If you go 3-0 you're either very lucky, very good, or a combination of both.

@Brometheus. Portalglyph will spawn horrors, daemonettes deep strike on time using scrier's gaze + icon. Because 1 horror can still put out the same amount of firepower has 10 horrors, but daemonettes will lose CC ability at lower no.s. I could run all horrors and no daemonettes.

@wuestenfux. Well yeah good point, using scrier's gaze to keep them off, to hopefully get around this.

@Morfydd. Not too worried about hoardes + wraithknights/riptides due to seekers (and maybe daemonettes if I take them), due to rending and plenty of attacks. Canoptek wraiths might be tricky, but if I manoeuvre the council correctly, I can hopefully avoid them long enough to take out other stuff. Also no one really uses guard anymore and not too scared of tanks either.

@MarkyMark. Well at the moment, a few games of daemons, with the last couple as screamer council + loads of online research. Combined with my aggressive playing style and plenty of chance to practice before a 3 round tournament, I'll have lots of practice hopefully.

@Thud. Yeah reserve + scrier's gaze, as mentioned above. Yeah that is one thing, daemons generally aren't a definite army, there's a lot of uncertainty involved, but when it pays off, it's worth the risk.

Its not the easiet pick up and play list to be honest, i have been running it for over 5 months now so I have it pretty perfected to my play style.

Recent tourny in the UK at 1500pts (battlefield birmingham) had 6 screamers out of 60 people! very suprised at that, what I wasnt suprised at was 3 coming in the top 5 the rest mid and lower tables. The 3 at the top was me of course dave symcox and Adam Ryland, two very good players and dave has had lots of pratice with his screamers. The rest hadnt had that many test games and lost the majority of their games, becuase frankly they read it online and thought it was a win net list.

I would suggest LOTS of pratice, preferbly against people that have played with the council before. I honestly dont think i have seen a good tactical online for the screamers.

@MarkyMark. Right that's probably a good point, I've read a few a articles on how to counter the screamer council, at which none of them were clear. So reading online tactics might not help me as much as they did for my necrons. Well I struggle to play games against decent opponents until I go to the local 3 round tournament. Last time someone was there with 18 canoptek wraiths. So ok just really practice and practice some more really.

Do units of Horrors that are spawned generate powers?

@necronspurs2012. I think I'm going to start using all horrors now instead, and see where that takes me.

@Brometheus. I've read the portalglyph rules again, and it says that they are treated like a normal unit, so I assume so.

Well the list was made for invasions down at warhammer world, the next one for our local area is 10th February. But since I have had a few more games with the list, some against armies specifically designed to take on the screamercouncil (e.g. 4 wolf priests, all with jaws). I put the list up to see for any changes that needed to be done before the tournament, and the poll to see how people think I will do. I do admit I lost the first couple of games (one was the 4 jaws, oh did mention the 7 drop pods and me going second). But I have won the last couple of games rather convincingly, so I'm getting used to and better with list now. It suits my aggressive playing style I feel. Thanks for asking and I guess I'll have to keep updating my progress a bit more now.
