Lost in the Warp

Hey y'all first time posting on Dakka In a long time. I've come here today to show you guys a 1000 points list from the new codex, which I'm totally exited for. I play for fun with friends and occasional tournaments. The first army I'm going up against is Necrons this Tuesday. I love what they did with guardians and wave serpents making them both BS 4 and the serpent got tougher with the holo fields and new serpent shield. Also cheaper Bright lances! So here's my list. (It's 1000k just don't remember points off top of head)

HQ
Autarch with bike, lance
x2 warlocks

Troops
x10 storm guards with 2 flamers
x10 storm guards with 2 flamers
x 6 rangers (to sit back and squat on an objective somewhere safe)

Wave serpent with holo fields and BL
Wave serpent with holo fields and BL

Fast attack
x6 shining spears with exarch (and some exarch power)

Heavy support
x2 war walkers with scatter laser and shrieker cannon.

Idea is to keep spears and autarch in reserves and now spears have outflank. Yes they can't assault when they come in but their lances are S6 AP3 now. So deff make a mess of something or just turboboost to an opposing flank. Shoot with tanks and walkers till I can bring my storm guard boats up as a second wave. All depends on the mission though. But what do you guys think? Open to anything!

The Twilight Zone

Your autarch is cheap and cheerful, which is nice. If you wanted, you can take a banshee mask to increase the assault oomph of the squad. I5 means you go first against most things already, but if you charge into cover your squad is I1 due to lack of assault grenades. The mask means you at least go at the same time as your opponents.

Warlocks are very expensive for what they bring in this dex, as their powers are random and casting them is unreliable on Ld8. Since they will be sitting in the serpents most of the game you are gaining little if anything. No boost to leadership or shooting, with only a marginal increase in durability for the squad. I would strongly suggest dropping these for a 3rd war walker.

Bright lances are nice, but scatter lasers are the best weapon for the serpent. You can move your lances to the walkers and put scatter lasers on the serpents. Also, chin cannons are really good with BS4 and the scatter laser.

Rangers are ok, but just take a unit of 5. Camp, go to ground if shot at. Can be used to outflank onto objectives, keep that in mind.

The shining spear exarch needs a star lance. S8 ap2 is well worth it. I would always take monster hunter as well, for the points it is a steal. It makes your shining spears capable of killing almost any MC in a single turn. The power works for shooting and assault, giving you re rolls on lance shots, hammer of wrath and all of the spear attacks. If there is even the smallest chance you are going to see an MC take this power. Necrons have c'tan and spiders, so take it. Hit and run is also pretty useful in case you whiff a combat and get stuck.

Walkers are solid, and the scatter/shuri build is cheap and effective. The concern is the range of the shuricannon, so you can outflank these as well! Alternatively, take 2 scatter lasers per walker. Other good combos are scatter/starcannon, and dual bright lances.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Awesome input! I'll deff drop a ranger to min and amp my exarch with the lance and monter hunter. Makes assaulting vehicles fun too with that S8 lance. Too many cases I get stuck in close come at with a MC.. No more with MH ability. I just like the lances on the serpents due to their durability compared to the walkers. With this new dex my love for warlocks is fading. Your right in the sence they get random abilities and they have to actually cast it now. May drop them and make the storm guard squads to 12, and may even give me a couple power weapons. Could get lucky. To add the final touches I'll add a chin gun with the serpent and a mask to my Autarch. If I drop the locks I'll have some play with points.
Another Question; with the new codex, what's the difference between dire avengers and the guardians. It feels like they buffed the guardians and rebuffed the dires. Would it actually be worth using the dires instead of a squad of the guardians in a wave serpent?

Also forgot to mention both squads of storm guards have 2 flamers for that extra kick

Austin, Texas.

which do you think is better vs vehicles?

wave serpent with brightlances,
or wave serpent with scatter lasers?

youd be surprised.... scatter lasers. 1 single BL TL shot will hit every time, but pen/glance only half. not that good of a chance.

but the scatter lasers will TL every shot, and combined with serpent sheild and shuiken cannon (always a good upgrade) will put out 11-12 TL shots at s 6-7!! which is great for killing even av 12 vechicles.

trust us.... ull love it

Dire Avengers Have a Greater range when shotting and have counter attack, while Guardian Defenders have none that and Both have the same BS value. With that being said both untis are really poor close combat units. IMO I think the better unit is the Guardian Defenders they are cheaper and this allows you to put more points elsewhere. With guardian defenders thier range 12" is less a liability in a Transport that can protect them well and put them in shotting range. I realise your using storm guardians so storm vs defenders I would go with the defenders every time out of personal preference, however my previous comment still stands guardains are poor close combat units and in my opinion purchasing them just to gain 2 flamers is not worth it. Again IMO

I'm a dire avenger fan. The chance to shoot 2 shots at 18" and then battlefocus backwards is quite nice. They also have slightly better armour, and can take an exarch. Now taking the exarch becomes expensive, but if you pay the points for a shimmer shield, the whole squad benefit from a 5++ which personally makes me think they're more survivable. It is personal preference though 10 dire avengers with exarch and shield is 160 points, guardians with warlock is 125 points, so not all that far off.

I'd agree that in this list the warlocks are pointless, is the autarchs running with the spears? Cos if not the mantle is very very popular! Just a thought!

Also, personally, in your list BL/BL is a must on the walkers, with TL SL the only way to go on the serpents, Twin linking a Shuricannon on the chin and a serpent shield is an amazing out put of firepower!
