So, I have been all over the board with this.

I play IG and am prepping for a tournament. I really like alternative lists with a little crazy stuff. The rest of my list is pretty locked in and solid, what I am struggling with is whether to bring my single vendetta or not.

Yes i get that its a darn good deal, but here is the trouble. Is ONE worth it? With fliers being such a popular tournament option, it is fair to assume there will be some pretty good anti-flier out there too. (Which is the main reason I have was going to bring the Vendetta anyways) Is the single flier worth bringing for anti-flier/late objective unit drop? Or with all the enemy anti-flier focused on it is it less than likely to survive its grand entrance?

So, are the points spent on a single vendetta with drop unit (vets) better spent on some anti-flier or just more units?

(Currently after haivng an Officer of the Fleet, I am relying on a single ADL with anti-air and a plethora of heavy weapon and multilaser snap shots, and attempting to just ignore what they bring and keep the targets too many for a late arrival flier to do much about)

Experience so far has shown that Hell drakes and storm ravens are rough to bring down. The Storm Raven wrecks whats left of my armor, but by that late in the game, the armor doesn't matter anymore. The Hell drakes are the big problem. All that being said, the single Vendetta has so far been lack luster and has made me wonder if replacing it with more first turn ordinance/AV14 or another vet&chimera squad would not be a better use of points in a tournament./

Thoughts? Experiences that can be shared?

I'd personally lean towards getting more boots on the ground and just win there, rather than fight in an arena where you'll likely be outgunned with just one flier. This also has the advantage of rendering any pure skyfire weapons the enemy brought (new SM tanks, hydras, extra points on Flakk missiles) all but useless, potentially giving you an advantage.

It's a similar principle to surrendering a flank, but instead of an area of the board you are allowing your opponent free reign in the air while possibly being able to bring more force on the ground. It's certainly a gamble, but one I'd be willing to take, as a single flier is probably going to be a liability if everyone else has more.
