So,

what would tyou think works better... 2 x 10 devs w/ 4 missile launchers with flak for 480 or 3 storm talons with las for 420?

I vote the Talons, they just require more finesse to use.
Only thing is, you may wish to switch combat tactics up if you don't use devs with IF

I am not sold on the talons yet.... Being able to combat squad the devs gives a lot of flexibility and preserves firepower.

There IS about a 60 point difference though.

Combat squad the devs and have a grunt with a bolt gun man a tank hunting quad gun.

Stormtalon moves on interceptor fire.

Math hammer.

3.555 shots hit.

2.666 hp stripped

1.7776 stay stripped if flyer jinks.

Shouldn't need more than 2 flakk missiles and a quad gun. Other 2 devs are better off with LC.

i run 1 10 man dev squad with 4 ML and flakk, attached to a Aegis with quad gun. even armour 12 flyers cant hold up against 8 str 7 shots with Taank Hunters, 4 of them being TL. plus the Quad Gun has interceptors, so you can possibly take out said flyer (lets say a helldrake) b4 it can do any damage.

Plus you get a 4+ cover from the ADL which aint bad.

Now that sounds pretty good...and cheap.

No, he cannot buff the aegis line cover save.

Against a raven (went for tough flyer) 3 talons with las shooting have a 43.2% chance of killing it outright.
The devs have a 41.7% chance (without ADL, with armourbane)
However the talons score 2.4hp whilst the devs score 3.3hp.
Also if the talons are already on the board the arriving raven will slaughter at least one of them before they can return fire. But shooting against the devs will be unlikely to reduce the unit enough to reduce the return fire at all (if being run in 10 man squads).
Talons find it easier to get rear armour shot and can rapidly redeploy fire. They also give 12 tl st6 rending and 3 tl st 9 ap2 shots all at bs 5 when shooting at ground targets compared to the devs 8 ml shots and 12 to 24 boltgun shots.
1 shot against a talon can take down 4 st6 rending and 1 st 9 shots. The same lucky shot against a dev squad takes out 2 bolter shots (tops).
It's a bloody tough one to call to be fair!

I like redundancy and survivability. I also like the storm talon model...once you fix the entire front section nightmare.

I'll probably go with 10xdevs w/4xMLw/flak and ADL with quad gun. I might throw in a thunderfire as well because i think it is awesome.
