Looks very nice. Only thing I'd change, since you don't have an Autarch, is the Crimson Hunter Exarch. For the same points, you get 10 Warp Spiders that fit your theme much better than a single aircraft. And 10 Warp Spiders are also great anti-air, so you're not losing much in any respect.

Also, you're a bit light on anti-AV14, especially if you listen to what I said and get some Warp Spiders instead of the Hunter. So I'd change the Guardian Scatterlasers to Brightlances. With BS4, having only 2 shots is not nearly as much of a problem as it used to.

Austin, Texas.

well if your meta is dominated by tau, you dont need a friendly list. most competitive in the world list would be friendly to the tau

fine list as it is though.

spirit sear really isnt needed, wont be doing much to the wraithgaurd.
you could consider putting him into the gardian squad, instead of warlock. warlock will fail his power alllooootttt more than the spirit sear.

Thanks for the feedback,

I do actually have 10 warpspiders that I can try, I certainly will give it a go I think. I do like that the plane can "reach out" a bit more, but its certainly incredibly fragile, especially if Tau bring AA.

The spiritseer is really just to make the Wraithguard scoring, the unit is designed to be able to punch up to an objective, clear it, then either hold it or soak a LOT of firepower holding it. Probably worth play testing both ways though just to see what works better, I may be better off with just a 10 man Dire Avenger squad.

The Twilight Zone

I agree that the guardians need more than a warlock hiding behind the line. Conceal is nice, till the warlock dies. A spiritseer can get conceal off the bat, or even better invisibility!

The other boosts are from the spiritseer statline. Ld9 means the squad is less likely to run if shot at. Considering your going to be close to your table edge, one failed morale check and bye bye squad. BS5 makes the quad gun that much more accurate.

Since the wraiths have scythes, the spirit mark is limited in application, yet another reason to just hang back.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Don't be fooled, D-scythes have a very special niche to fill within Eldar troop slots. For one, they are deadly to ANYTHING they shoot at. And once they're in position, they can't be bulged. Imagine a Spiritseer casting Conceal and/or Protect on a unit somewhere in cover. T6 with 2+ or 3+ cover save means mostly immune to small arms, while high-strength weaponry usually doesn't ignore cover. Or if it does, it's not AP3. Yes, there are ways to make it go away(DE poison for instance), but you either play more conservatively when faced with such threats or you deal with them before they threaten your Wraithguard.

And they are also quite impossible to assault, as the wall of death with AP2 flamers is just silly. So definitely not something you can just replace with 10 Dire Avengers. Try the D-scythes, see how they fit into your playstyle. Also, they kill Tau suits like there's no tomorrow. God forbid there are drones in the unit and you get 3 or 4 hits with each template.

The Hunter is alright with the Autarch, as you can manipulate reserves and force it to come after the enemy fliers. That's imperative with an AV10 chassis. Anything that has Skyfire will shoot down the Hunter very quickly, unless the Hunter strikes first. Whereas Warp Spiders with their 3+ save are suprisingly survivable, given how fast they can move. Hunter is more of a wildcard, a hit and miss kind of unit. It will either do massive damage or it will die before it has done anything. Spiders are more reliable, mobile and versatile dakka platforms. And don't necessarily take 1 squad of 10. You can mix and match. I find a squad of 8 Spiders is just about right for me so it always makes its points back, but 2 squads of 5 are also great for more board control. And small squads are much easier to deep strike safely.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
One little trick with the Guardians, ADL and the Quad gun(though I'd take Icarus if you did what I'm about to suggest). You take an Avatar and equip him with either Night Vision and Fast Shot or Monster Hunter and Fast Shot Exarch powers. Put him by the Icarus and shoot 2 BS10 S9 AP2 shots every turn. He also gives the Guardians Fearless, so forget about their low LD.

You'd have to get rid of the Farseer or Spiritseer in this case, though. I might even suggest removing the Farseer and putting the Spiritseer back with the Guardians, as others have suggested. You could get points by trimming your jetbike squad, since with LD8, they are now much more likely to be running of, you might be better of with 2 or 3 squads of 3 with shuriken cannon for 61 points each.

That even gives you a bit more points to play around with. Get that Dire Avenger squad to full 10-man, get your Spiritseer Wraithforge stone from the Iyanden codex to heal your Avatar or something like that. And your firebase is incredibly durable. Depending on what you're facing and the mission, you may need to deploy the ADL more toward the midfield, so you secure a larger part of the map and your Avatar can move out in mid game to go destroy something in melee and leave the Icarus to the Spiritseer.
