Well if you want wraithguard spiritseer as hq makes sense as it turns wraithguard into troop choices. That being said given the fact that 5 wraiths with d scythes and a transport run into almost 400 points they arent great for low cost games. You could run a small squad footslog but even at 1k most armies can pack enough nasties to take them out early.

Could go for this ( as a rough draft)

Spiritseer

5 avengers
Serpent with scatters

5 avengers
Serpent with scatters

7 wraithguard

Wraithknight

2 walkers with scatters

Not sure of points offhand but has the units you want

Well I agree with warren about the Spiritseer with Wraithguard. You could do this
HQ
-Spiritseer

Troops
-5 Wraithguard

-7 DA's
>Wave Serpent w/Scatter Lasers, Holo-Fields, Shuriken Cannon

-7 DA's
>Wave Serpent w/Scatter Lasers, Holo-Fields, Shuriken Cannon

Heavy Support
-Wraithknight

3 War Walkers w/2 Scatter Lasers Each

This is a total of 992 points. You have good fire rate with the Wave Serpents and DA's. Wraithguard can be used to hunt tanks or sit on objectives as a tough unit. Spiritseer can cast his powers on wraithguard (Conceal). Wraithknight can march up and shoot then assault the enemy tanks or tough things(Riptides). The War Walkers with Scatters are just amazing. Place them behind a wall in your deployment zone, move them out 6' then shoot that amazing amount of S6 shots into the enemy, then battle focus behind the wall. Just superb.

Good Luck

I really like this list though im thinking drop a da and use extra points to upg spirit to farseer. You have 2 troops anyway and prescience on those walkers makes this an awesome 1k list imo

yes. no need to funnel more points into a unit that is supposed to stay in serpent whole game.
dire avengers best as 5 man.

I think there's an error here somewhere. I'm tallying this up to be 1152 points...

Adding this up it looks to be 1020 points, you'll have to shave something. I would also suggest getting rid of one of the squads of rangers in favor of something a little more killy. Consider bringing in a small squad of jetbikes for linebreaker/last minute objective grab/contests instead.

Consider the following:
Illic
5 Pathfinders
3 jetbikes, 1 cannon
3 jetbikes, 1 cannon
5 Wraithguard, D-Scythes
Wave Serpent, Bright Lances, Holo fields.
Fire Prism, Holo Fields
Fire Prism.

I dropped the spiritseer since he's an okay buffer, but with your list the wraithguard will literally be the only thing in your enemy's face. so they're going to die right away regardless of a spiritseer's buffs.

I threw in two min squads of jetbikes with cannons so they can take pot shots and do a bit more damage on average than a min squad of rangers, they're a bit more durable, and they're great for grabbing late game victory points.

Had to sacrifice holo fields on one of the vehicles to fit this all in under 1000, which one is totally up to you. I just chose a fire prism since they should always be in the backfield under low volume of fire.

as much as I like jetbikes I was trying to remain more fluffy

Alright, well lets find you something more fluffy that fits Aliatoc and doesn't involve mass rangers (are they are indeed quite useless for anything but camping an objective and picking off the occasional model)

If you're more worried about fluff than competetiveness it opens up a few new alleys for us to explore. Aliatoc has a lot of exarchs as well as rangers and produces a fair number of corsair pilots, so perhaps we can do something like this:

Illic
5 Pathfinders
10 Dire Avengers, Exarch w/ power weapon/shimmer shield
Wave Serpent w/ Scatters, cannon, holo fields
Crimson Hunter
3 Dark Reapers, Exarch, EML, Fast shot, Night Vision
Fire Prism, Holo fields.
995 points.

you've got some good shooting ability from the Dire avengers, and a 5+ invuln for the whole squad thanks to the shimmershield. Of course, led by an exarch because they're Aliatoc

Reapers in the backfield will help against MEQ, just be sure to keep them in some ruins with good LOS. Again, led by an exarch

Crimson hunter should be all the Anti air/armour you need, just constantly skirt him along your table edge to keep him away from danger.

and of course, Illic with his pathfinders to grab that midfield objective super early, or snag the relic turn one.

The only thing not related to craftworld Aliatoc in this list is the fire prism, but I'm sure that doesn't matter.

A side note for playing this list - don't rush your wave serpent up as it will literally be the only thing the enemy has to shoot at, and your avengers will just be plastered. as with true Aliatoc tactics, avoid direct confrontation, hang back and do lots of shooting to whittle him down before closing in and unloading your avengers. direct confrontation with this list will only see your stuff disappear :(
