Hello all,

I have been working on a gaming table (well board to be more precise) when i've had time off from work. and its finally coming together. however i'm doing the finishing touches and time consuming stuff that can really make or break it, so would like to get things right! With your help.

I Started off with 2 sheets of Plasterboard (It was incredibly cheap) Then built and nailed a wooden frame underneath to keep it rigid. I then used plaster on areas to create a different effect, I also used expanng foam to create some rough hills (which were inteded to be sanded down). I then covered the lot in PVA and sand, then when dry applied another layer of PVA ontop.

Overall it's come out quite well. I've basecoated it in grey, but had too much to drink and gave up halway through. So on went the Red on the rest.



Here it as at the moment, i chose the Red as a) it was cheap and it also reminded me of playing Minecraft, it's the same shade as Netherbrick. It also is different, and something i could imagine in the 40k universe. The red is definitely staying, but there are other things i'm not so sure about.



I'm not sure what to do with the rocks, i was initially going to sand them down, but i really liked the creepy way the foam came out when it cured. So i covered some parts in sand and painted.
I'm incredibly unsure what colour to paint these, shall i leave them grey? If so what colour shall i highlight with?

Also i'm not sure what to do with the grey plastered bit shown, there's a few of them scattered about the table, and most painted red at the moment. But shall i paint/leave them grey or something else? Also what colour shall i highlight?



Finally i tried a small area drybrushing on an equivent of GW bleached bone paint, and i'm unsure if it suits the table, what colours could be better suited to it? (ignore the bad drybrushing, blame the beer!)


AND one last question, what scenery would you expect to be used on a table like this? Bar the crashed Aquilla, and GW ruins. I'm struggling what else of our old table would fit (tree's and foliage i couldnt imagine on there, nor really small city barricades)

A blood red table.... hmm....hmmm..... What am i on about, I didn't have to even think! Daemon World!

So perhaps some old artifacts and relics of lost races?
weird dimensional portals and webways?
A gaping maw in the centre?
a fountain of blood?

I'd paint the grey areas a dark brown and then blend them in to the rest of the table with drybrushing.

I'd certainly drybrush the rest of the table with a mix of pastel orange shades.

Also I have to tell you I disapprove of your avatar but as your signature is a goal against the Spud's I'll let you off

Thanks guys, It's actually more a terracotta red, but the camera doesn't really pick it up!

I Had never thought of a Daemon world, it reminds me of the Chaos Stronghold On DOW Dark Crusade, So will take the idea of old Relics and what not. Still unsure of the plaster areas, so will try brown and see what that looks like first!

With a little extra work they could become areas of water/vile pussing, bubbling pools of decay? I personally think a daemon world would rock, you dont see many of them in comparison to standard green fields of joy

Pictures don't do it justice but it looks chuffing lovely! I think the total project cost came in at around £30, well worth it in my view. Now i need to base all my minis!
