Tomorrow there is a 40 man tournament that a fair number of the strong local players attend. I've decided to run with my Ultramarines with this list:

HQ 165
Chief Librarian Tigurius (Three Rolls on Divination) 165

Troops 375
Tactical Squad 10 Man with Plasma Gun, Multi Melta, Bolt Pistol, Power Sword, MeltaBomb 185
Scouts x10 with Sniper Rifles x10, Camo Cloaks x10, Sgt Telion 190

Fast Attack 290
Stormtalon with Typhoon Missile Launcher 145
Stormtalon with Typhoon Missile Launcher 145

Heavy Support 620
Centurion Devestator Squad x5 wtih Grav Cannon and Amp, Hurricane Bolters, Omniscope 420
Thunderfire Cannon 100
Thunderfire Cannon 100

Fortifications 50
Aegis Line 50

Pretty simple for the strategy. Tiggy and the Centurions together to form the Gravstar, being cautious with movement I should be able to do a lot of damage with these guys and take little in return. Hopefully tying up the majority of shooting each round. Naturally, this relies on Tiggy getting forewarning on the divination chart, but with three rolls and re-rolls that isn't terrible.

Thunderfires go in what little cover there is or behind the Aegis Line and pick off as many troops as possible. Tacticals hang back on the objective and the Scouts are either infiltrating for shenanigans or sitting on an objective. Ideally in a building.

Stormtalons for anti-air/light vehicle and striking the back of my opponent's line.

I feel that the troops are a little skimpy but I like it overall.

I'd try to get at least one more troop unit in there. Don't forget the techmarines can both bolster any area terrain or ruin in your deployment zone (but not the same terrain) so you should have at least a 4+ cover every game even without the Aegis. Telion is decent but he'd be better if your scouts had a missile launcher.

The desired effect is what you get when you improve your interplanetary funksmanship.

I believe that 5 centurions with buffs from Tigurius is an extreme case of overkill.
If you feel a little unsecure take 4, but even 3 buff centurions can reliably take out any unit (vehicle or not) except large blobs.
You can use the extra pts for another tac or scout squad.
I would also consider a quad gun

So, I ended up with two massacre victories (7 points each) and two massacre losses (1 point each) putting me just above the middle of the 40 man run. Eldar and Tyranids were my losses, Grey Knights and Tyranids were my wins.

Also got to meet Dan, formerly of miniwargaming, as he was playing on the fantasy side. Very cool guy.
