Hello Dakka,

Do you think this Imperial Fists' successors list could tac decently at 1850? I really like the models, so I'd gladly sacrifice some competitive efficiency (but don't want to field a garbage list either). Please note that I am both new to 40k and ignorant of what my area's meta is like. I have been crawling Dakka a bit & watching batreps, but that is pretty much it. I do plan to start out with smaller lists until I get a feel for the game rules and flow, but this is what I am currently thinking of building towards. Is it doomed or does it stand somewhat of a chance? Do I have all the bases covered?

Thank you

captain w/ artificer armor

10 tac marines w/ flamer, heavy bolter, rhino, sergeant w/ storm bolter
10 tac marines w/ flamer, heavy bolter, drop pod, sergeant w/ storm bolter
5 scouts w/ sniper & cloak

v. dread w/ assault cannon & heavy flamer/fist, drop pod
dread w/ autocannon x2
9 sternguard w/ 2x combiflamer, melta bombs, drop pod w/ locator beacon

land speeder w/ heavy bolter x2
land speeder w/ heavy flamer x2

10 dev marines w/ 4x lascannon
predator w/ lascannons x3
thunderfire cannon

aegis defense line w/ quadgun

The general idea is to focus down a flank and go from there: use captain to tank what he can for sternguard; drop sternguard and and v.dread during drop pod assault, then follow with flame speeder and dp tac marines as they roll in from reserves; devs combat squad and at least 1/2 man the aegis w/ sergeant buffing quadgun; scouts take potshots & guard home obj; bolter speeder & rhino tac mariness run up to support front & tag mid obj; rifleman deploys somewhere with good los, preferably in cover w/ tfc; predator supports devs against armor/mc's.

Aspartame's Imperial Fists do really well. He takes the same list for all opponents, for the most part. It's something along the lines of:

Lysander
10 Sternguard w/ 4x Combi Grav or Plasma in Drop Pod
5 or 6 Assault Terminators w/ Claws and TH/SS mixed
10 Tactical Marines w/ Plasma, ML
10 Tactical Marines w/ Plasma, ML
10 Devastators w/ ML x4
10 Devastators w/ Plasma Cannon x4
10 Devastators w/ Heavy Bolter x4
Tigurius
10 Scouts w/ Bolters or BP/CCW
ADL w/ Quadcannon

Ow.

As for your list, as an Imperial Fists opponent I'd say drop the Pred and Dread for more Devastators to take advantage of the Chapter Tactics. Don't be afraid to take Heavy Bolters. The re-roll 1's is absolutely painful over the course of a game.

I think your list is good.
