I'm getting back into the hobby slowly but I wanted to know if there are any good gaming stores with dedicated gaming groups in Eastern Virginia? I just moved to Hampton but I am willing to travel to Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, possibly even Richmond if there are good groups there.

Please let me know if there are good stores to check out too.

Thanks!

Atlantis is king in Tidewater, hit me up and we can get a game in. Just on the Norfolk side of the bridge tunnel.

Also Jerseys in Yorktown has a great group, they hold regular leagues and tourneys.

World's Best in Newport News is pretty good and they always have a good selection stock for GW and lots of other game systems.

Thanks for the tips. I checked out worlds best but it was so so. I love the store but the gaming area was not so great. Ill definitely go to Atlantis since it seems to have a good player base. Is Jerseys a store? Yorktown could be cool. Thanks again and once my army is put together Ill be letting you all know Im ready to game!

Out of curiosity since I haven't gamed in a while, what makes you say that? My memory is of a far superior space than that provided by Jersey's or Atlantis, as being far away from racks of product so you can move around the tables without inconveniencing/being inconvenienced by shoppers is a big plus for me. However, both Jersey's and Atlantis seem to have much more in terms of store-organized events.

None of the three are bad choices though, just a matter of who's most convenient. Also, the Jersey's actually in Hampton is pretty much just comics and cards; good if you want to play Magic, but head to Yorktown if you have minis.

It must have been a while since you visited Atlantis Norfolk. The second floor is dedicated to gaming and tables, no product.

Haven't been to Atlantis-Norfolk in a long time; really hate trying to deal with HRBT. Atlantis-Chesapeake is the one I've seen recently, and I have to say their events seem very well-run at a glance so I assume the same is true of the Norfolk branch.

World's Best upstairs gaming area was very nice last I saw as well, hence my question. Wanted to make sure the roof didn't fall in or they pulled tables or something.

Wait, are they still by the WaWa on 17?

I thought they moved to that shopping center further down? The one before York High.

They moved back down by the WaWa...I want to say early this year but really didn't keep tabs. However, it's now on the other side of the light from their first location (same side, just another traffic light basically). Better space than they had at either of their previous spots, for certain, even if the WaWa was more convenient to walk to way back in the day.

-Worlds Best has a HUGE gaming area, but it's as dirty as a rest stop bathroom and most of the store terrain needs repaired. By far it has the largest selection of almost everything you can think of. Unfortunately it seems as though a majority of 40k has died off, although there are the dedicated few. A bunch of us recently started Malifaux, there's a decent player base for Warmahordes, and most of the 40k players have a Warhammer Fantasy army. No tournaments here, however I think the Warmahordes guys do a winter league.

-Jerseys Yorktown is clean, but still somewhat small, and they try to ram them ordering stuff down your throat. I was offered 15% off what they had to order though.

-Atlantis OceanView had an unreal selection for Flames of War, but not a whole lot else aside from board games. GW selection was meh, didn't see the gaming area, but I heard some people upstairs.

I play at WB since it's closest and usually has what I need in stock. By walking into each store, Worlds Best seems like a Wargamers store albeit a bit rough. Jerseys and Atomic appear tailored to the card players niche but they have tournaments.

Yeah WB had loads of selection but the gaming area was pretty dirty. Like back alley dirty. It was disappointing also that the terrain was not very well made. But the unclean atmosphere bothered me most.

I also saw that there is a GW store in Virginia Beach. Anyone checked it out? Also there is a big store in Richmond. Kind of far but I will travel for a good game.

Idk what happened, but they cleaned the gaming area quite a bit. The dirty foam mats are still there, but hey, it's a gaming area and they save models from time to time. Would I rather see them clean? Yeah.

Some of the regulars are supposed to be doing "terranovember" to repair some of the terrain. We're not sure who is tearing the stuff up, but it's pissing us off.

The GW store in VA Beach wasn't bad. Too far for me. The lady wasn't pushy in trying to sell stuff which is amazing. She did watch like a hawk though. The tables are all of the battlescape boards, somewhat small area to play which is right smack in the middle of the floor space.
