Well the coolness factor of any model depends on the person looking at it.Also who says duel wielding plasma is a bad idea? John Woo would approve and if you think one pistol is even close to enough dakka then you misunderstand the word!

Might be worth gettin him invuln saves, or a command squad with apothecary though.. for that time that his pistols inevitably kill him lol.

Might be good to pair him with a primiras to stop him cooking himself.

Did this for my commander, well, one plasma pistol that came with the kit and a plasma gun from GW bitz. (hes the commander of my ryza themed regiment it would be criminal not to do this)

I agree that coolness can outweigh common sense. For example, csm raptors with twin chainswords. Not strictly game legal, but they look cool as funk.
