I am interested in running a Colonial Marines sim/rpg via forums. http://colonialmarines.freeforums.org/index.php

This sim/rpg will feature no dice except in rare occasions and will allow fun expression and development of a character within the boundaries of the Aliens universe. I plan on incorporating the simplest rpg elements like dialog and combat via player participation with an additional complex mechanic: The opportunity to build small-unit relationships similar to those seen in actual combat units. The goal here is not to "break" the game or make an unstoppable character. Hard work translates into a wonderful and unique rpg experience. Players with wit and teamwork skills will "win" in every mission, whether they're wounded or their saga ends in a bloody death.

Good writers and fast typers are welcome, but I encourage anyone who is interested in the Aliens movies to join us. This is a very positive experience and can even help develop leadership skills, especially when your "character" is literally in charge of the well-being, logistics and training of fellow Colonial Marines. In my experience (and I hope you'll agree), when role players are put in charge of specific jobs and tasks as part of a cohesive team it makes it fun for everyone.

As for the players and their characters- a lot is determined by a player's knowledge of the Aliens universe, military customs in general, regardless of country and Colonial Marines weaponry.

This has a few benefits vs online games played on PC, and if you're already a tabletop wargamer:
-Some people just don't have a gaming computer
-If a player who does a specific task can't make it to a scheduled roleplay event, the event doesn't shut down. Just like in real life, there are other individuals in a unit who can assume multiple roles.
-Events do not have to be long, and can be saved for later
-Perfect for when you can't be up at the FLGS anyways!

Let me know if you're interested. I am in the process of creating Applications for Character Creation. I have ran rpgs like this in past, as far back as 1997. The more people the better, and people from all countries are welcome.

Note: I am particularly interested in recruiting fellow US Marines to inject some realism (and to add a feeling of brotherhood to the sessions).

Not going to lie, this intrigues me. I know about as much about military customs as any civvie can, although the Alien universe in general isn't one I'm that familiar with.

I'd at least be interested in following along with the story if nothing else. The system you're using to handle this would be interesting to see.

Like watching other people play video games (badly) while blathering about nothing in particular? Check out my Youtube channel: joemamaUSA!

Try to watch "Aliens" and that's all the refresher you need for something like this.

I'm about to update the first post with the character jobs we would be needing to fill. The application will follow. It's nothing more than a description of your character and some general information on how this text-based rpg operates.

For those who are interested in following along, I intend on saving the missions and in-character dialog+character actions and posting them as articles if we can actually get this thing running. People who like 40k battle reports (or sci-fi in general) might like reading the rpg sessions because it will be like reading a story.

I am interested. I know every line of Aliens verbatim as well has have some original props, so I think I qualify as a valid fan.

I already have my character biography ready to go; ready to get this started as soon as you have a place to start up the writing.
