Hi.

I happen to have a 6' x 4' mdf-board. Going to make a gaming board out of it.

Question is - how does one paint it? Can I use spray paints? What paints should I use? I'm at a loss here and I don't want to destroy the board. Anyone have any experience with this?

You can use spray paints - but for the initial sealing coat, I recommend something like a latex or acrylic house paint applied with a roller. It will be cheaper (MDF will suck up paint ) to do it this way.

You can paint the whole thing with latex house paints. It's the most cost-effective way to do it and it will be very durable.

You can even get custom colors mixed for free.

EXACTLY.

99% of paint stations at hardware stores can color match whatever you want.

Grab the cheapest can of Killz primer you can get, prime the board, then slap down whatever color interior latex (in whatever finish) you want.

Finish with a clear polyurethane for security if you'd like, but generally it's pretty tough.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

If it warps, paint the other side, this will even it out.

(if the mdf absorbs too much moisture from the paint, it will warp...if you paint both sides this usually cures it).

best of luck!
