I think this would be useful in cases of abuse, such as when users make threats and then delete them. Screenshots are easily faked and should not be admissible as evidence for any serious matters, so something like this would really be the only way to determine if there was abuse. And I have seen this happen.

Wouldn't that lead clogging up Dakka's server's with even more information than it already has stored? Ie storing multiple versions of a user's post for the odd instance (if there even were one) where there's a need to view them? Users may find it a little embarrassing that glaring spelling mistakes or whatever other corrections they made are publically viewable, and think that those that chose to do so were a bit voyeuristic.
Still I don't know how moderators handle things here, or the technical side of things, but it does come across as unnecessary. I'm sure that the instances where users act in such a fashion aren't that common place, and perhaps there's some way for moderators to find this out already. Though not hacking people off that they make rash comments may be the easiest solution to this problem of yours...
Can't we all just get along? =P

I don't think it would be that intensive since most posts wouldn't be edited, and not that much at that. As for spelling mistakes, no one would see them because no one is just going to randomly go through the edit history of posts. And if we needed to, it could be made accessible only to moderators.

I believe mods can already see a history of post edits.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

We see everything...
Seriously, though... no. We can see the history of posts that we edit, but there's no readily available log of every edit everywhere. On the one hand I kind of like the idea... would be useful in some cases to see where a post has been edited just for spelling, and where there was some larger change involved. On the other hand, if it were publicly viewable I can see it leading to people responding to posts that had already been edited, just because there is something in the old version of the post that they feel a burning need to respond to...
As a mod tool for those rare instances where someone has said something they shouldn't and we need to follow up on it, it would certainly be useful... but such occasions are very, very rare, and I'm not sure it would be worth the database usage just for that purpose.

All database changes are already logged, it is just a pain and a slow process to pull out additional edits and definitely not useful to show it to users.
