Hi guys,
Just started WHFB and have been painting and collecting an Ogre Kingdoms army over past couple of months but not actually played a game.

Finally getting around to sorting out an army to start learning how to play and was wondering for some thoughts on this. Please.

Gnoblers will be sitting in front of the Leadbelchers to try and protect them a little bit but pretty straight forward of Ogres and Ironguts moving forward, Sabretusks as redirectors and Ironblaster softening up units. Mournfang just running riot (hopefully).

Some help would be appreciated please!

Hi there JChalmers welcome to WHFB. Just a few things I have noticed 1) I'm not sure the Gnoblars will provide a very effective meat shield as there are only ten. You will find against gun heavy armies such as Empire or Dwarfs they really won't last long enough to protect your ogres so I would increase their number to 25-30 so they can last
2) I would use the sabertusks as artillery hunters basically you want to set these up to kill of any cannons stone throwers etc before they can do too much damage

Apart from that this list looks really solid Just try to keep as many ogres alive until you get into charge range then you should be able to maul through most armies

Happy Hunting

Welcome to the game!

A few things:
You have TWO hellhearts, which is not allowed. Magic items are one of only in WHFB (unless otherwise stated).

Aside from that, I would take the standard of discipline off of your BSB and give him some defensive gear to keep him alive.

Slaughtermaster can drop the hellheart and take a Ward save and maybe a dispel scroll if you want to keep your anti-magic tight.

I would find room for 1 more IG (or a stand-in if you don't have the models yet) to make them 8 with the FB (4x2)

Gnobler trappers are awesome, so I would keep them. Frankly I would add another unit so you can screen both flanks!

Good on you for using the Stonehorn as well, good luck with him! He's a lot of fun, just doesn't get much love.

Cheers for the advice. Didn't realise I'd put a Hellheart on the Slaughtermaster was definitely wanting a Dispell Scroll on there.

I'm tooing and froing over the Stonehorn. 250pts is alot when I could add a nother IG and Gnoblers plus some extra bits and pieces.

I'll have a revision over the BSB and see what I can add to him to surive more.

Cheers guys!

1. Get the standard of discipline on the ironguts, best place for it.
2. I suggest making your core a unit of 9 ogres and 9 ironguts.
3. stick the SM with the ironguts for a Ld9 army bubble form him.
4. for me either take the rune maw banner for the bsb or none at all and use his magic points for armour/ward.
5. Drop the mournfang champion, no need for him and 1 attack is not worth the extra points

One thing you should know, you are not allowed to post individual points costs for things on the forums, GW get touchy and may give dakka problems so please remove them. you can post unit total costs but not what each item costs.

You have the basis of a solid ogre army, I say rock the stonehorn, he is fun to use and is an impressive centre piece for the army.

All anyone wants in the world is to be accepted. Except me, i don't give a S%@t.

I can't argue with any of mixer's suggestions, they are all solid.

The only things I will add are consider a ward save (4++) for the slaughtermaster and put in a dispel scroll. Keep the belly with the hellheart as you have done.

I personally go with a defensive build for my bsb most of the time, usually the following:

Heavy armour, Enchanted Shield, Talisman of Endurance, Gold Sigil Sword

This gives him a 3+ save, 5+ ward and I10 in combat so he gets his hits in first against anybody without ASF. He is normally pretty sturdy with this build and has been known to hold out on his own against units of 20+ Empire Halbediers with characters.

Cheers for even more hints and tips guys.

Think I'll redo the Army list this weekend looking at all the magic items in both the BRB and Armies Book.

I’ll have to see about converting three bulls into Ironguts as I’ve got a unused box of Ogres that I was ready to build for the other 6 ogres. Sure with a few bits and bobs I’ll be able to turn three bulls into Ironguts.

Been loving painting this army too, for my first ever army and models I think they’re turning out great.

As you have Mournfangs and have built them with the ironfists, the spare great weapons could go on the Ogres for some cool looking Ironguts when you add a few plates of armour.

I wouldn't argue with it and I am sure no one else would.
