You move an IC within 2 inches of a unit. Is he considered to have automatically joined said unit or do you have to announce he has joined?

Currently I am away from the rule book but I would say it is Automatic on a technicality.

The rules for joining another squad can be found in the independent character section of the book, as you are already well aware of. If I am remembering right this section prevent you from moving within 2 inches unless you intend to join said squad. This is because a specific limiter exists that denies you the ability to move a independent character within 2 inches from another unit. Should this be correct then any movement within 2 inches is, in and of itself, announcing that you intend to join said unit.

Automatic. If you dont want him to join he must stay more than 2" away
