Hey Dakka, was hoping to get some info to help make an IG Airborne list. I am trying to use minimum heavy slots with the fluff idea being either airborne rangers (catachan) or 101st airborne (cadian). I have an idea of a list but I am still new to Sixth Edition and IG so any advice be great.

So any ideas to help me out here be great, I am aiming to try and make it competitive but it isn't a high priority at the moment.

So is it a good list or just a typical guard air list?

It's a little light on the heavy firepower for a IG list to be honest. You have a lot there to template Infantry to death, and charging your units will be painful with Wall of Death. First two turns could suck for your Chimera and Medusa, since they are the only armor. It is easy to prioritize the Medusa. Hopefully you can hide it somewhere.

If it were me, I'd be dropping Vox Casters to take Heavy Bolters on your Flyers. Even if you end up using Snap Fire on them all the time, you'd be surprised how useful they are.

I'd be interested to play against this list. It won't play the same as your typical IG list (or at least, the ones I run into) but I don't see anything massively wrong about it.

I feel like you are spending too many points on the veterans. I assume the Veteran Squads (not Harker) and Platoon Command Squads are embarked in the Vendettas/Valkyries? I would drop Harker's squad altogether, using the points to upgrade the Valkyries to Vendettas and get a Heavy Weapon Team for each Infantry squad (Lascannons or Autocannons). You will then have enough points for a Heavy Weapon squad or something like that. Adding Heavy Weapons to squads shouldn't detract too much from your theme, and will greatly increase your firepower.

What would be a good load out for the veterans that I put in the ven/valk? I was wanting to keep them as objective stealers. I like a medusa in general play but now looking at the list I have I could drop it, marbo and harker's squad to add stormtroopers and maybe another vendetta or valkyrie. I want to start with the platoons on field in cover or pressing objectives then get them in on round two if lucky.

Stormtroopers are pretty bad, IMO. I only take them in squads of 5 with 2 Meltas and deepstrike them, targeting key vehicles.

When I put my vets in planes I like to give them 3 Meltas or Plasmas, Shotguns, and the Demolitions Doctrine if I'm feeling saucy. I would go with Plasmas if they are for taking objectives. Flamers are another good choice, depending on your list composition.

More planes is always a good idea in a list like this. You could do 2x2 Vendettas and a single Valkyrie with Multiple Rocket Pods for infantry cleanup.

Wouldn't flamers on veterans be a waste on their BS? Demo vets with plasma dropping on objective is the general idea. I do love having some melta for anti armor. I wanted to put flamers on the platoon that way I don't have to worry about missing and that give me some antihorde. That was the idea just correct me if I am wrong.

For platoon squads on foot ..I would recommend one have Autocannons and flamers to protect your Artillery emplacement

why is Straken in a chimera instead of leading a blobby platoon on foot with grenade launchers galore ?

I put him a chimera just out of inexperience with using him. I could take him out be more points to put elsewhere.

I never have had much luck with shotguns, but I love the demo specialist with melta or plasma. I have had a lot of luck with Harker and placing his squad in cover to annoy an hq.
