It was just like something out of a TV show, at least at first: Two Connecticut parents returned home from a trip a day early to find their teenage daughters hosting a party at their Glastonbury house last Sunday.

But here's where it diverges a bit from the script: Mom and Dad didn't just yell, they called the cops, reports the Hartford Courant. It was "the right thing to do," an officer says. The girls, 15 and 16, were arrested and charged with permitting a minor to possess alcohol.

It's just a wee bit different than what happened two weeks prior in the same town, also as reported by the Courant: Christopher Nixon, 49, and his wife, Shawn Nixon, 50, were arrested after their teen threw a Sept. 27 party attended by more than 100 teens; neighbors complained, and the responding police found beer, liquor, and a vomiting teen, and picked up the scent of marijuana.

The Nixons, who were home during the party, didn't supply the teens with the items, but police say they "turned a blind eye" to all the illegal activity.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Wait, those kinds of parties actually happen? I thought that was mostly just a TV thing. That's just a stupid thing for the kids to do, although back story may of helped. They may have just been decent kids who wanted to have a bit of fun but then things got out of control. In that case, the parents calling the cops is stupid. But honestly, I can't even think of a dozen people I would invite to my house at the same time, much less a hundred. They might break my models

Pretty much how my high school graduation party was, though it was more like 50 people than 100.

Shred City.

If we knew more about these kid's pasts, then we could form better opinions.

If they have a history of flagrant misbehavior and disobedience toward their parents, then I'm glad their parents found their nuts and busted them with this last straw.

If they are normally decent kids, and they just wanted a relatively tame jam that grew out of control (this happens sometimes), then I'd be pissed but certainly not call the police.

Great parenting, I wonder if the parents were smiling when their kids were getting tazered and stripsearched.

Wow, that does seem a tad OTT, but as Prehistoric has said we don't know the back story. History on the teens would have helped.

Very clever. Give your kids a criminal record because they held a party...

You have a bit of a point actually.

Riding in the backseat, notice dad is speeding. Call the police.

Yeesh...

Never, EVER call the cops on your family... unless its some sort of heinous crime or other safety reasons.

IF it were me.

You drink... give me your keys and you stay until you sober up. That might mean you ain't leaving until you wake up from your stupor in the morning.

Then I'll go back to playing Call of Duty showing the pups how it's really done.

Whembly knows what he's talking about. Unless these kids already had a shady history, it just seems really OTT...

One thing to consider is that if any other parent finds out about this party and that these parents knew about it then the parents are now criminally liable for every drunk teenager at this party and can be charged under social hosting laws.

My money is on these kids being assclowns that had it coming though.

Even if the kids were assclowns, did they pop out of the womb that way?

Seems to me that we're dealing with a family of trolls.

Huh... criminal liability? O.o (goes and check Missouri's law)

We do have to know the specific circumstances, like if these kids have a history of bad behavior that the parents have tried to rectify and failed to, resulting in no other choice but to call the cops.

But if the parents did this to teach their kids a "lesson," which I've seen parents do in the court system, it's stupid and carries huge consequences for the kids that the kids will be stuck with the rest of their lives. The parents usually don't understand that and think the kids will get a slap on the wrist, which of course doesn't happen.

There really isn't enough to make any real sort of call on. The children could have had a history of willfully ignoring their parents, or the parents could have been uber strict.

One thing to note, though, isl if there is a history if this, the parents could be avoiding a potential law suit for neglagence. The situation and responses could have been escalating over a period of time.

Let's not ignore the fact that this happened two weeks after a couple was arrested for hosting a very similar party. Stupid waste of police resources in both cases, IMO.

Not really since parties like this, where drugs and alcohol are in heavy use, can quickly spiral out of control. In a family neighborhood it's especially not welcome.

Right you are, let me clarify. Cops show up, break up party, issue ticket to homeowner for noise violation (if applicable). Fine.

Charges, arrests, criminal records... total waste.

Most kids drink, most kids smoke pot. Most kids turn out just fine, except the ones with criminal records of course.

Different tone compare to the NFLplayer thread possibly getting sued by the parents for their kids trashing his place.

I'm in agreement with you on most points except I think that parents should be parents and exert control. Letting kids do drugs and drink for whatever reason is not good.

Mommy should have let Daddy beat them more often. Sounds like hippy parents.
