Subject: Eldar - How would you expand on this.

Hi Guys,
I'm just about to come into possession of some Eldar models as well as the codex. I've not had a proper read of the codex yet but I thought I would ask some advice on how to expand on this collection. I will probably be using Tau allies to begin with as well, so keeping that in mind is key and I believe that the Farseers will probably be a good choice here.
So here is a list of what I will be getting.
Eldrad
2 other Farseers
10 Warlocks
10 Rangers
5 Dark Reapers
And also the Codex
Thanks for the help in advance.
So suggestions are welcome. I want to post this in the tactics section rather than the army list section because it is not so much about the army list that I want advice on but units that work well together and also work well with Tau. As I said the Farseers are a given because of Guide and Prescience.

What with all that psychic power going around you're going to get a lot of rerolls. So going for units that make the most of their firepower is a good idea. Dark Reapers are a nice start, as are Rangers - I would also suggest Fire Dragons and War Walkers. You'll see when you get the Codex that scatter lasers can improve your chances of hitting, in a roundabout way - while a nice thing to have, I don't think you'll need it so much. If you do go for scatter lasers, do it for the S6 shots it gives by itself, not for its added abilities.
One thing you definitely need - Troops. Nothing you've listed so far is a Troops unit. I'd suggest Guardians and/or Dire Avengers to pump out lots of really punishing shuriken fire, but I keep hearing good things about Jetbikes too.

I was under the impression that Rangers were troops. However I do need more troops. I like the look of Dire Avengers but I've heard good things about Jetbikes as well. I need to see about a Farseer on a Jetbike as he will be handy when attaching to some Tau units.

Rangers most definitely are troops. you need mobility. Warp Spiders, Jetbikes, there are almost no bad choices in the codex so you're pretty safe just buying whatever you want.
Those foot warlocks won't get much use as a unit, though you can parse them out much like wolf guard, so they can be useful there. Jetbike riding warlocks however are awesome as a unit, especially with a couple farseers on jetbikes, so it'll take some conversion work, but that unit is money against most armies.
I recommend a couple units of 3 jetbikes for cheap mobile scoring, and then maybe some guardians or dire avengers and a wave serpent or two.

Thanks for the response. Some good suggestions there and I am pretty much considering everything you said.

You have some great supporting units to a couple good lists that are out there. From here you'd have to determie your mobility type and build from there.
1.) You could go for Jetbikes as your mobility and scoring unit durability(Rangers are just not durable). If you go this route your best bets are Jetbikes and Warp Spiders as your next two purchases.
2.) You could opt for Guardians/Dire Avengers in Wave Serpents for your mobility and scoring unit durability. From here I'd buy those models and then War Walkers. or Fire Prisms.
The problem is there are SO MANY good choices after you get your core figured out. I'd just say stay clear of the flyers and the Falcons....but any other choices after the mobile/durable troop choices is best reserved for your meta.

Thank you for your insight. Jetbikes & Warp Spiders seem to be given a few shouts so far so they look like a decent choice.

You need 2 units of 3 x jetbikes, at least one unit of spiders, Wraith Knight and 2+ Wave serpents.

Cool, so if I get the 2 units of Jetbikes, the spiders and 2 wave serpents first then that will come to £120.
Don't worry, I will defintely get a Wraithknight at some point, but I need to nail down the basics first.

If you want to take Farseers on jetbikes, look at getting a Vyper.
Not that's I've tried it myself, people say they can fit a model on the back, in place of the turret.
Jetbikes units are great for taking objectives, and just being annoying. Zip around the battle, blocking LoS and taking jink saves.
Split the Rangers into 2x5, and pop away at special weapon troops.
A 5-man DA squad in a Serpent is a favourite for taking up-field objectives. Take 2 or 3 of these.
With the ranged squads you have, War Walkers or Wraithlords/knights would be good additions.
But, with the range options that Tau offer, go for more fast units. Warp Spiders, Swooping Hawks.
If you want to use your Warlocks, put them in a Serpent, and maybe add an Autarch or Phoenix Lord as your play style dictates.

So much to get my hands on here. I was thinking of selling my high elves to fund some of this anyway. Looks like I may have to since probably about £100 is the best I can do without doing that for the month.

They certainly are getting a big heads up. The Jetbikes are looking popular too. This now gives me a better idea on what to run with.

Also strong are shuriken weapons in volume due to their pseudo-rending ability. Which makes Guardians and Dire Avengers more versatile than Rangers by a longshot.
