Jovial Plaguebearer of Nurgle

As I stated in my title for this thread I have recently come back to the hobby of 40k after a terrible personal tragedy and have not looked at the GW website in nearly a year or gone to any stores. Yesterday I decided maybe I would think about getting back on the horse and playing again so I checked out the GW site and granted before my hiatus prices were pretty crazy for their figs but I didn't really think it could get much worse price wise in just a year. Well as it turned out I was wrong and the price have pretty much gone runaway and make absolutely no sense in example the Centurion Marines are $78 for only 3 figs and a land raider is $74. What the hell happened?
After years of loyal patronage to GW it pains me unequivocally to think I may have to stop buying new figs from them at their crazy prices and may have to shift more to the used market and hope I can get what I want when I want it.
What is the overall consensus these day about GW and their seeming abuse of pricing policy and what are some good alternatives to GW games?

Welcome back!
Yep, prices be crazy. Yours is the latest in many threads to voice the same thing.
Now for the good news, there are plenty of great alternative model manufacturers that will supply cheaper or better quality minis, you can still get 20% off without trying too hard (and most of the plastic troop choices aren't ludicrous at that level) and and there are many other hugely entertaining games that require nothing like the investment to get started
Have a look around see what tickles your fancy, while GW seem to be looking a touch jaded just now, bur the hibby in general is in great shape!

Here is a good thread you can have a look at for alternative games.

The pricing means I'll be replacing my Guard models with alternatives and slowly building a FW Horus Heresy legion where the price at least gets some beautiful models above and beyond what GW normally produces.
Oh, and investing a lot more of my money back in to Spartan Games with Firestorm Armada 2.0 and re-releasing the original factions with some gorgeous new sculpts. I can collect four full size fleets for the cost of a single 1500pts 40k army that way.
